Title: My Dad
Post by: Traditional-Archer on February 27, 2008, 10:08:00 PM
Prayer for my Dad,I love you for raising me and being there for me. I ask the Lord to be there for you when you are afraid of the dark.
You told me once you were saved as a boy.
Gave your hart to god I never saw it, I am not judging you beleave me.You told me god would never forgive you for the things you have done.
In return I asked you what I could do that you would not forgive me for you said. There is nothing I could do that would make that happen, you would follow me to the end of life to prove it. I told you Jesus has already done that for both of us.You did not understand I pray some day you will.

That has to be tough,Bruce.  Prayers up with you.

Going in for shoulder surgery mid week next, so can't shoot for a while, but if you want to get together and talk bows, lie about hunting stories or just talk through your stuff with Dad, I will be around.

I'm up in Lititz. Sent PM with phone...  :)

Prayers for you father.

My father died a while back and never chose to have a relationship with God.  Growing up my sister and I prayed for him daily.  I do not know why things turn out the way that they do but I do know that my God is in control and has a plan.

Peace be with you,

Mitch

Well, Bud...something naggin at me that I want to share but the words don't come...I keep editing.  It still won't be 'right' but I throw it out there for thought...

Simply said, I've known many of the old school like your dad who felt their sins mired them in guilt. I myself have only come to truly understand "grace" in the past decade...up till then, my religious teachings emphasized "earning our salvation."  That makes "self forgiveness" terribly hard to achieve... even if we accept Christ as our beloved Savior.

Some take the word so literally, that even though we all are destined to sin anew these folks tend to beat themselves down that they're not totally without sin.  I know why God sent his Son...because I and most I know, just can't get it right on our own and we're conceived in Sin and will continue to Sin. Only through the Holy Spirit working in us can we begin to undo that and improve...but only in death before Christ will we be made perfect!

Maybe like so many of the older folks I've known, your dad is like that?

God is omnisicent and often we're right where God needs us to be in our walk.

I will still pray for your Dad to enjoy the "joy" promised us from embracing our sins being washed clean, but I won't specualte on whether his salvation is tied to that. Only God knows his heart...

May the Holy Spirit move to "open the eyes of your dad's heart" and see Jesus as He truly is!

I THINK WHAT IS THE HARDEST FOR ME IS MY DAD DOES BELIEVE IN GOD HE JUST CHOOSES TO NOT ASK FOR FORGIVENESS. HE THINKS THE WAY TO REPENT IS TO WEIGHT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTES OF LIFE AND TRY AND CATCH UP ON ALL WRONGS.
EVEN WEBSTER PUTS IN THE DICTIONARY. REPENTENCE IS TO TURN FROM SIN AND DEDICATE ONESELF TO THE AMENDMENT OF ONE'S LIFE.
SOME GET IT AND SOME DO NOT.I AM NOT JUDGING MY DAD PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT THAT WAY I LOVE HIM HE IS MY DAD. I PRAY FOR HIM HE IS 67 YEARS OLD THE LAST MINUTES OF LIFE ARE NEAR. YOU KNOW THE THINK IS THEY ARE NEAR FOR ALL OF US GOD BLESS ALL.
THANK YOU ALL FOR RESPONDING,
AND DOC IT WAS NICE TALKING TO YOU ON THE LAND  LINE TODAY.

Yeah it was...  :)

WEren't suggesting anything close to thinking you didn't love him.. but I was thinking more how so many I've known were taught that they personally had to "undo" their sin and "get it right" for God to bless them...old theology that has caused many heartaches.

Kinda sounds like you know more beneath the surface...and I'm backing this ole rig right on outa this one...  :)

Suffice it to say that I'll just keep ole pappy in prayers...

...and I sure hope that at 67 it's not the "last minutes" of life...or I got less than a decade left!

Keep the Son in yoru eyes!
