I bought this 60" Kodiak about 6 mo. ago and it had a very old string with it. It may have even been an original or near to it. I took it to my bow shop and he measure it at 54.5 ". We strung it up and it had a 10.5" brace length. I told him that surely wasnt right and thought it ought to be nearer 8". Well I have looked all over and cant find a definitive answer to the factory brace height for this bow. It has no AMO on it so I assume it isnt a 58" string by default. Any help here would be great!

Has it been refinished? In 1968 it would either be a Super Kodiak or a Kodiak Hunter. All 1968 Bear bows had an AMO length listed on them.
A picture would help to verify the year but a 60" Kodiak would normally run 7.5 to 8.5 in brace height. Early Kodiaks run lower brace heights than the later ones. My 67.5 SK likes 8.25.

It does not look to be refinished. It is a Kodiak Hunter. No AMO written on it anywhere. The specs are written in a golden ink. 8T871 60" 47#. I would greatly appreciate a string length if you have a 68 Kodiak Hunter.
The Kodiak Hunter came out in 1967 1/2 at 58". Brought back in 1968 at 60". I believe this to be yours. The AMO is the 60". I usually order my strings 3" shorter and then twist the string as it stretches out until it stops smacking the limb and feels right. This is what works for me.
I would say Brad has it dialed in up above.....
Thank You Larry. Ill try the 57 in length.
I'm a bit late, but I have a Green K-Hunter, it likes an 8" brace height.
Ok, I ended up with a B50 Flemish string of 58 inches but it stretched an inch of brace height. I twisted it till I got a little over 8" and it shoots fine.
