Can anybody give me some insight on a Howatt Diablo recurve? I know they made a Super Diablo but didnt know there was a Diablo model. I am awaiting delivery of one and would like some info about them. The serial number is EAU3765. Thanks
The Diablo preceded the Super Diablo. I'm not positive when production started but I have an ad from the July '59 issue of the National Bowhunter for "Howatt's Improved Hunters" showing the Diablo.
The Diablo in the ad does not have a leather grip so if your bow does, I assume that it would at least be earlier than '59. The ad bow has a stripe in the riser as well.
The serial number on the early bows ('60 or so and earlier) aren't a lot of help in dating, the decals, logos, riser shape and woods will be the most help. One thing that may be present is a number stamped in the riser about 3/8" tall identifying the bowyer. Damon Howatt was bowyer #1 in the early days prior to the sale of his company.
Please post pics when it arrives.

Brad, thanks for the info. I will definitely post pics when it gets here.
Brad, pics posted on powwow thread.
Thank you, I missed that thread. Sweet bow! I love that rust colored glass as well.
Nice find!
Shoots great too!
1/4 away....I did a search, and I think this is the Diablo you are talking about. Great looking bow.

Yep, that's it.
Fred,
All Iknow is you should not shoot that bow anymore. It would be best if you boxed it up and sent it to me so no one gets hurt :p
Charlie, Maybe after I take a deer with it... :bigsmyl:
