Title: old Hoyt year Info...
Post by: RunninWild77 on March 02, 2013, 07:47:00 AM
Hey guys just curious, I' got an old Hoyt pro Hunter. Its a one piece recurve, both back and belly have black glass, looks like maple in between. Cocabolo riser with a maple accent stripe. Oh and Cocabolo tip over lays. I wish I new more about the age of the bow, it was actually my first bow. My father acquired for me from the neighbor some 15 20 years ago now. I used it to kill my first well actually my only bow kill deer. I'm curious because well I've never seen another one like it, even close to it. Are they rare? value doesn't mean much to me because it's priceless to me. Any info would be much appreciated, thanks Walt.

Sounds nice, I've never seen one made with cocobolo. I had a hoyt once, seems to me it looked like bubinga. You have any pictures?

I can't but I had one from the early 70s and yours appears to be earlier, probably 60s. Sorry but that's all I know.

Based on that serial number, I would guess late 1962, or early 1963. I have serial number PH14483, and it was shipped on 15 Sep 1962 (I bought it while the Hoyts still owned Sky Archery, and that is the date that they gave me when I contacted them).

By the way, the wood in the riser is probably Brazilian rosewood - I have seen a few of those early Pro-Hunters that were made with Brazilian rosewood.

Wow, I didnt think it was that old! Are they pretty rare? I've only seen one on a auction site we're not allowed to mention here that was for a south paw. I'll tell you what though, this things a shooter, it really sends the mail if you know what I mean. I shouldnt have to worry about shooting it should I? I mean there's some horizontal stress cracks in the glass but nothing pealing up or running vertical.

Actually I just checked and that bow was still up, the funny thing is the serial #s are fairly close, that ones 15144. Cool! Wish I had the money for it.
