Just seen this listed...#9Z1 is this the first production Super Kodiak of 1969?
:archer:
Al Readers '67 Super K read the same except of course the first digit, so yeah.
I believe the letter represents the calendar period during the year of production. so A would be early in the year and Z end of year.
Didn't realize Z was the 12th letter of the alphabet. All of the '67,'68'&'69 Super Ks I've ever had were Zs and I've had a ton. So it denotes model as far as I can tell and have been told.
I'm with Gary on this one......while I was never really "into" SKs over the years, I did appreciate the way they looked and have seen, fondled and shot quite a few of the early bows. I don't ever recall seeing any of the 67 1/2, 68 or 69 SKs without a "Z" in their serial number.
Yeah Bear did that on most models. Without looking at my notes I believe 67 Kodiak Hunters were T, 66 kodiak L , 65 S. and in the 70s KZ, KU, etc. With some makers such as Staghorn, Herters, and others they did use a letter for the month.
That bow is awesome.
Would look great on my rack..... :D
Z is for 60" bow and Y for a 64" bow.

You got it I completly forgot the damn 64".
I think alot of people are watching that one.
Should be interesting.
Yep Philip!
I'm looking at my 64" 69 SK and and the serial # is 9Y111: Never knew that!!!! Thanks......
Thanks Philip, always something to learn here.
I'd bet someone I know down in NJ is pretty focused on this one....for a reason!!
Someone in PA is pretty interested also.
:jumper: :jumper:
It is kinda neat seeing the bow shown in the 1969 Bear catalog listed for sale to anyone that is interested...I have always had a thing for the 1968 and 1969 models.
Someone got a very nice collectible. :clapper:
For that price, I might consider selling my 64".
Sometimes you just gotta jump in with 2 feet without testing the water. Complete commitment to collecting rare Bear's.
The wonderful and sometimes pricey part of collecting anything.
My Congratulations to the new owner!
......Philip
Wow if I noticed it was the actual bow in the photo in the 1969 catalog before the listing ended I would have been in with both feet and a leg. I missed out on making a stronger attempt to get this one not having that one last piece of info before bidding. Darn. Congrats to someone it went to them for a very fair price.
Hole Moly!!!!!!!
Boy, One of you very serious collector's truly wanted that one..... And a Nice One It Is. :)
I REALLY wanted this bow, but the timing is terrible for me.
Hopefully someone on here got it!
I have my first 69 SK on the way! Mint and 60# Can't wait to hold it. I said good riddance to my new TD handle in the trade.
