IS THERE photos of Fred with a 59 Kodiak?
Thanks for any help.
God Bless
Steve
Here's one of Fred with his '59 Kodiak outside of his tent in Alaska in 1959.I may have a couple more.

Here's another from the same trip showing Fred aboard the Valiant Maid with one of his many trophies.Bow is covered with camo limb covers.

I'll give you BD's proverbial 10 bucks for that, Johnny. LOL
Thanks!
Since I finally have one......I "need" a shot or 10 of Fred with one if at all possible.
God Bless
Steve
Uh........Fred took PAJAMAS on hunting trips?
Oh Fred....you just never fail to amaze me!
Cool Pic's John, I wonder if the red stripes on the quiver are rubber bands, if so maybe for pieces of brush?. I'll have to check my photos to see if I have any pics with that.......Hink
Bill- I do believe the red bands are rubber bands but I think Fred used them to hold plastic over his fletching when the weather got ugly.In the first picture, although it's hard to see,Fred has plastic covering his fletching with a red band around the plastic and there is only one other red band on his quiver. In the second photo there are two red bands on the quiver and no plastic.I think he had a spare on there just in case.Or it may just be where the metal hood meets the leather top on the quiver, hard to tell if there is a rubber band there but on the first picture by the tent I can definitely see a red rubber band around the plastic.

I have a photo of Fred in a "standing stupor" (obviously just woke up) somewhere in the bush wearing a full set of striped PJs. He doesn't look pleased that someone took his photo that early in the AM. You can see a set of caribou antlers in the background.
Yep...you have that right John, after I enlarged the pic's I could see that.......cool...Hink
you know for whatever reason and I'll think of it soon.I thought this was a 1959 Kodiak ? bd (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii175/bowdocsarchery/fred011.jpg)
There are lots of other photographs of Fred with 1959 Kodiaks.
And actual photographs, not a print of a painting like the Bobcat.
Doc - You ever seen a real photograph of that painting???
OK
How could anyone forget this one...

Somewhere, there is a photo of Fred with that rack on his back, bow in hand. ?? I seem to recall.
Neat stuff, guys. My thanks.

Yes, there other photographs of Fred with his World Record Barren Ground Caribou but most are black & whites.
This is another angle at the kill site. This photograph is at the Arsenal in the Fred Bear Display which contains many of Fred's personal broadheads & arrows.
Fred killed this caribou with a "Bear Giant Razorhead" it is 1-1/2" with both ways with the insert in it.
Sorry for the flash and poor image...

Little story to make ya'll ill.
In 74, my new wife (where else would I go on a honeymoon? Geeez) and I went to Greyling.
Imagine my dumbfoundedness when I was walking around taking photos when I turned my head and there stood Fred.
Fred, being the true gentleman he was, spent more than an hour walking around telling me the story of some of the trophys and the ex got photos of us standing near several as well as one when I first introduced myself and we shook hands.
Highlight of my life? oh baby.
Since hindsight is 20-20, I'da killed for a tape recorder that day.
The "ill" part? 4 years later, I divorced her nasty personage and before I could get all my stuff out she took all my photos and entire collection of Archery magazine out in the drive, poured gas on them and ......POOF!
Every one of them would have been 8x10s today and not only mounted on my wall in pride but also left to our son.
OT, I know but every time I see Fred's photo, I find myself wishing I could have done that ALL over again, with a different photographer and a TAPE RECORDER. (my MEMORY is horrendous and I was operating in "auto-pilot" half not knowing what in the world to say!)
A couple thousand people have similar photos, I'm sure......but this was just MY chance for the same.
Glass half full, she can't take the memory of that day.
God Bless and thanks for sharing the photos, gang.
Steve
After reading that Story. I have only one thing to say.
Congratulations on your divorce!
LOL

Hadn't thought of this photograph as being one of Fred with a 1959 Kodiak, but happened to pass it today and realized that it fits the description, although not in the sense that we would generally think.
Some time ago, this photograph was discussed at length on another thread.
The bow above the bear is Floyd's 56", 1959 Kodiak with a compass in the grip that Fred installed at the factory and gave to Floyd. Sorry for the flash on my poorly taken photograph of a historic photograph.

Thanks for the great posts of hard to find pics. Most members will never have the chance to see many of these pics without you guys bringing them to our attention.
Thanks for the great pics Wade.
Philip -
I feel bad about my poor quality unprofessional photographs of the great old time photographs that I've posted. As always, the originals are best.
This is probably the greatest photograph of Fred Bear with 1959 Kodiaks... The 1959 Little Delta Hunt. Wow, Factory Camo 59s and Maple Sight Window Bows...
It is hard to pick out the 59 Kodiaks in the mass of Caribou Antlers. Fred's World Record is the big one in velvet on the tree.
Wade,
I'm fascinated every time I see that picture.
To see those guy's so young and roughing it out there is something I treasure.
Interesting how back then, those bows were simply "weapons" and today they are treasures.
Those 59's really shine in that picture!
Thanks for the pics!..........Philip
Phlip -
Yes, it is a cool photograph. I have studied it for hours under a 10x magnifier.
the signed StCharles arrow from the 1959 Little Delta hunt in my pic ? that arrow was actualy in the quiver of one of those left hand bear bows stacked in the antler pile. Now if I could just get that one arrow to talk ...... bd
For those of us less informed could you guys name the hunters (besides the obvious one, lol).
Just awesome.........NOW I understand a little more of the huge interest in the maple sight window bows.
Since right handed. Who's bow is that in front? Where did these bows end up? Do we know?
Must be Fred's leaning agaisnt the tree with his antlers (from what I can tell.)
My thanks to all for the info and photos you've been sharing.
God Bless
Slow
Love seeing the photos of Fred and the '59 bows.. the '59 Kodiak was my first "new" bow... I hauled hay and worked the neighbors field crops all summer to pay for it..
The hunters in that famous picture are(l-r)
Fred Bear,Dick Bolding,Bob Kelly,Russ Wright,and Glenn St. Charles kneeling.

Yes, the bow at the far right leaning against the tree is left hand.
However, if you refer back to the photograph of Fred with the World Record Caribou, you will notice that his bow has bow socks on it rather than being factory camo painted, like the LH bow at the far right leaning against the tree.
I would guess that the bow at the far right leaning against the tree is Glenn's bow as he shot left hand.
Note also in the photograph that Glenn still has his left hand shooting glove on...
Note also that Fred's arrows are white in the photograph with the World Record Caribou, but the arrows in the quiver of the LH bow in the group photograph are not white, have different cresting and different feather colors. They don't even look like standard Bear factory arrows as they have no crown dip.

Doc,
Which quiver of arrows in the above photograph does your Little Delta Arrow Match?
A fellow Tradganger's search for Fred Bear's arrows prompted me to do a little searching of my own.
I love the photo Wade posted of the "Little Delta Gang" and the pile of 59 Kodiaks and Caribou antlers. (probably my favorite Bowhunting image of all time)
A few things about the photo interest me.
1. the Kodiak silk screen is on the belly of these 59 Kodiaks but is typically on the back. Is that because they are factory camoed?
2. and since they are factory camoed, how do we know they are maple sight window 59s
at any rate, the photo is cool and others may appreciate it that havent seen it.

TTT (Alan - Hope this helps you!)
Thank you Tony.
