Title: A tale of two Grizzlies
Post by: portugeejn on February 19, 2011, 02:20:00 AM
I have two Bear Super Grizzly bows.  The 50x was my first, and I was able to purchase the 45x about a year later.

The 50x is my hunter, and I decided to set up the 45x for bowfishing.

I have shot both and had not noticed the difference in the grips-they feel pretty much the same and I never really noticed the difference until one day they happened to be laying on the bed side to side.

The picture makes one look larger than the other, but it must be a trick of the camera as I took a tape measure to them, and are pretty close (as close as you would expect).  Except the shelf difference.

So here is the question.  Do you think the grips (shelf height) were that different from Grayling, or did someone lower the shelf on the 50x?  (It doesn't appear to be refinished to my eye, but these are the only two Super Grizzly bows I have seen)

I have seen this in many Bear bows where there is a draw weight difference. In my 56 and 57 kodiaks especially.

In my opinion it was done that way at the factory......there is a lot of wood removed from the back of the bow, and if that was done later the overlays would have had to be removed and replaced.
That shelf and grip by the way is how Fred would have wanted to set up the shelf; close to his hand.
Somebody ordered it that way, or an employee made it for themselves.

I definitely like the look of the 50x grip.  I don't particularly care for the higher shelf on the "newer" Grizzlies like was common on the Super Grizzly and visible on your 45x.

Here's one altogether different than either of yours.  Also note no radiused shelf compared to both of yours having one. This bow is also marked 53# under the plate, but isn't marked the usual 50X#.
