I'm in the process of redoing an old Super Diablo for myself and already know that I love this bow! So much that I am already going to start looking for its big brother.
In the older Super D's what lengths were they available in? The bow I have now is a 60". Did they come in
62 or 64"?
Whip, as far as I know the Super D only came in 60". They all came with a deluxe bag and a stabilizer. Mine is a 1974 and the best shooting bow I own!

yap whippster I think the super D was only in 60" god those are great shooters for sure bd
Well, sounds like no go on a longer one. But that really should be OK. I'm drawing pretty close to 30" when I do things right, and this bow is sweet all the way! But even at that draw it ended up at 53#. If I could find one a little heavier I might have a new elk hunting bow.
hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm if I could find one a little heavier I may end up with YOURS.I've actually had a couple SD's over the years and as I mentioned bouts one of the top shooters around then and or today great shooters just beautiful to look at and well built bd
Damon howatt did make a longer bow 62" but I'm not sure if it was the hunter or the dreamcatcher (actually dreamcatcher is I believe a Martin/Howatt) but I do know there are longer versions ! maybe the Hi speed ? I'm sure someone will know
Dean
The Hunter and Monterey were 62", the Hi-Speed 58".
The only problem with your plan BD is this one isn't going anywhere! 53# will work just fine on these wimpy WI whitetails (and those wimpy Quebec bears if I ever get back up there!) It's just a little lighter than I prefer for elk or bigger critters though. So I'll keep my eyes out.
I have seen them come up occasionally, but had been holding out waiting for one that needed a little sprucing up. This one was perfect!
Whip, these older DH bows all scaled heavier than posted weight by a couple or more pounds. Scale yours with a good scale and see if it holds true. Your 53# may be more like 55-56#.
The 53# is the actual weight on my digital scale at my 30" draw. It was marked 48@28, but actually weighed 47.2 on my scale. I wish this one would have been a little heavier than marked, but it will do for now!
I wish I would have kept one of the ones I had it was 55#@28 and like a fool I sold it on bowbay when things were selling rather good.Thought I'd just pick up another sometime but not as yet.........dang old bows ya gota love em bd
Whip is this the bow I sold ya?
If so I'm glad your liking it.
Cant wait to see some pictures once its complete!
That's the one Cody! She took a little coaxing to get her limbs to lay nice, but she's coming around. Stripped her naked, and just put the fill coat of finish on so far. I'll finish it up this weekend. She is a beauty!
Post them pics....I love the restoration photos! :D
Mike just posted that one to tantalize me. I'm looking for its twin brother.....jackdaw
Well, she's finished, and shoots even better than she looks! Will be carrying this beauty around Texas in a couple of weeks trying not to scratch her up too bad.

reddoge, you mentioned several bow lengths. The Hi-Speed also came in 54".
Whip
That is a NICE looking bow. Came out real Clean. I've never seen a stabilizer like that?? Different!
Very Nice!!
I like the satin finish.
Looks Very Good!! KY
OUTSTANDING work Joe very nice bd
Now that there is a pretty bow!!
Nice one Joe! Another great job!
Bow looks great Joe.
Joe, I don't believe the Super D's were ever any longer. Before that, the Diablo's were 58". I believe the Hi-Speeds and Balboas were 58", also. The Super D's and plain looking Coronado were 60".The Hunter and Triumph were 62", with the Hunter being the better looker and easier to find. If you don't mind a longer bow, the 66" Ventura had some really good looking years, too. It's tough to beat those older Howatts for appearance. Gotta love 'em.
Great job Joe! I bet all those curves took some time.
BEAUTY!! Nice job Joe!
Woo hoo, pretty bow and great job. The satin finish looks real nice.
Knobby, yeah, those Ventura's are great looking bows too. Only thing is the one that I did have in the shop recently was white glass, and I like the black for hunting.
The other thing I did on this one is to cut the shelf down closer to my hand and put a little radius on it. The Damon Howatt's have plenty of wood sitting on top of your hand, and I like my arrow a little closer. I have a couple of Hunters hanging around, and might try the same thing on one of those eventually.
Very nice looking bow. Love the finish you used.
Nice Bow!! I have two of them.
That bow looks fabulous!
Looks good Joe.
NICE, very nice...... :notworthy:
Wow! Great job!!
Nice looking bow, great work!
Joe, Are you going to bring it to Iowa? I for one would like to see it and draw it if possible. I'm looking for one now to, but have only seen pictures.
Ben, yes, I will have it with me in Iowa. I'm headed straight to Texas from Waterloo, and this bow is going to get the starting spot in the line up. Stop by and take it over to the range for a test drive!
Beautful bow Joe!
Whip
There is a very nice article on you in TradArchers World Spring 2011 by the editor Tom
Colstad. Nice to see you made the transition from a stressful career to a pleasant retirement. Great work your doing now!
Whip, I have one that is 55# @ 28". And 68# @ 31 1/2" ! The worst stacking bow I've ever owned. But it is pretty, and fast too.
thats outstanding work right there brother beautiful job Joe.Man if you don't love the looks of that gem right there your not feeling well today bd
Great work Joe.
i saw joe's bow at the WTA banquet, and my jaw just dropped. i have never seen a more beautiful bow in my life. it is just drop-dead gorgeous. :notworthy:
Wow! You have a beautiful bow there. Those DH bows are exceptional. I have not found one that does'nt shoot great. The wood is gorgeous and the finish you applied is great. Looks like a handrubbed finish you might see on a fine rifle.
Good luck hunting with her, please post pics.......Philip
Thanks for all the nice words.
Best part of all about this bow is that she shoots as good as she looks!
