Title: Lee Marvin the Archer
Post by: Jon Stewart on November 29, 2010, 12:19:00 PM
Decided to  go through some of my dads old photos and paper clippings and was reading the National Field Archery Tournament Program from Watkins Glen New York (1957) and there was a photo of Lee Marvin shooting with 3 other guys.  He had on a Robin Hood hat.  Didn't know he was a tournament archer.

Any chance of posting the story and pics?

There seems to be quite a few celebrities from that era that were avid hunters/shooters with many being bowhunters.  I remember Rory Calhoun, Guy Madison, Wm. Shatner, Roy Rogers, Arthur Godfrey, and others being involved.  I suppose we can thank Fred Bear and Howard Hill for that.

Not very good at this computer thing. The paper/shoot program is very fragile due to its age.  Not much of a story on Marvin just a photo of him with three other archers pulling arrows at a target.  Would be happy to make a copy of the photo and send it to you.

On a side note.  I was very young when we were there.  My cousin and I went to the edge of the glen and started tossing rocks at the parked cars across the glen.  The police picked us up and took us both back to our parents.  Was my dad P.O.ed. LOL  He still reminds me of that.

Interesting on Marvin.

Shatner and Mr Godfrey quit hunting.  Both of them, Mr Godfrey a bit less and of course he is gone now, became rather outspoken anti's.  What a shame.
