Title: Wing Archery
Post by: 2son on April 15, 2010, 02:35:00 PM
I've read thru all the archive posts regarding Wing Archery history and also a couple of interviews with Bob Lee so you would think Wing history has been beat to death  :)  There's a lingering question I have and I haven't been able to ferret it out from all the reading.
Some of the old Wings have a decal with the address: 314 So. 7th, Houston, TX.  From the Interviews it seems Bob Lee moved his bow making from his Houston backyard in about 1955 to a couple of buildings in Bellaire (Houston suburb)with the address 7104 Mapleridge St.  The two buildings at that address can still be seen using Google Maps !
My question is regarding the 314 So. 7th address. Was that Bob Lee's home address before making the move to Mapleridge St?? it would mean that bows with that decal were built prior to 1955...maybe??
I considered emailing BobLee Archery, but their website asks Wing collectors not to email or call...soooooo..shame not to have access to the "Man" himself about his old bows.
Anyone??

I see that 314 S 7th St no longer exists but if it did back in the 1950's it would have been just around the corner and a block South of the 7104 Mapleridge St address.

Bob was involved with Westbow for awhile. Later bought out this company so maybe it was their address. Bows I've seen with this address were definitely Wings, though and made in the late 1950's-later than 1955 so I don't think these are bows made in his backyard.

I got lucky and was able to adopted these triplets.

Can we narrow down the year ? Early 60's ?
