Title: Bear recurve exotic hardwoods
Post by: Gpprs on January 03, 2010, 02:15:00 PM
I have a few grayling recurves, that I really enjoy. I have read about Bears use of several kinds of "exotic" hardwoods during the 1960's. I know what rosewood, shedua, bubinga, zebrawood, and tigerwood look like. I don't know if I have ever seen an African Mansonia bow. I wonder if anyone has one that they could post pictures of? What years and bow models were made of African Mansonia? Thanks a lot. I really appreciate all the great information and knowledge shared on this site.

I've never heard of it in an old Bear bow.  Could it be called another name?

(I know bubinga is also known as African Rosewood.}

I did a google search for that wood and came up with a few pics and it looks a little like Bubinga. I also have never seen that wood named along with any bows.

African mansonia wood is listed as the riser wood of the 1965 Bearcat bow.

Thanks, Guys. Maybe the reason that I have never seen a bow made from it, is that it wasn't used very much. I was just curious. Some of the old bows have really beautiful pieces of wood in them. It adds to their charm.
