Title: If not now when??
Post by: flyguysc on May 14, 2017, 08:45:00 PM
I shoot a certain bow for a while and then the wheels start turning and I buy another and so on. Guess I never have worn a bow out. I was shooting my Jet Bison ASL today and the bow is spot on and the thought came to me why would I ever change?Just how long can one expect a bow to last? I shoot this bow every day and the performance seems as fresh as the first shot.People are always buying vintage bows from the years gone buy and claim that they shoot like ,well awesome. So can one wear one out?Sure strings .tabs, etc. wear out but do trad bows lose there ump?Not sure cause after awhile I get that new bow desire and move on to the next one.

Your post could have been written about me. For some reason, I have started shooting one particular bow, a Dakota recurve, so well that I wonder when I'll shoot any of the other ones again. At my age, I'm pretty sure it will outlast me, no matter how much I shoot it, so I don't think I have to worry about wearing it out.

I shoot a 40 plus year old Bear Kodiak Hunter recurve as good as any bow that I've shot. I have literally launched 10,000 shafts with it. I often wonder if it will fail at some point. I have been careful to only shoot arrows that have always been on the 10 gpp plus side. I don't know if that makes a big difference or not, but that is what it has been fed. I have not noticed any loss in performance, but then again its not a fast bow to begin with.

I've got a 1966 bearcat that I've shot thousands of arrows through without issue. I've wondered about wearing a bow out though as well. I worry that I'm shooting a vintage bow to death, despite treating it well and shooting heavy arrows. So far so good though.
