Title: Very damaged fingers, effectively no ring finger, what release?
Post by: halfseminole on September 04, 2015, 04:33:00 PM
Looking to expand my repertoire as well as give my left shoulder and right eye a rest, I have a 66" Hoyt coming in to shoot for the season.  My right hand was shattered in the accident that I was in my last year of college.  The ring finger has no knuckle at the palm and sticks up over and across my ring and index finger.  It's effectively useless that way.

I use thumb style because of that, but I know pinch well.  Is that a valid style with American style bows?  I'm unsure how to shoot as my ring finger impedes my release.  I'll work on getting a picture to explain better.

Yes, injury voids all preconceptions.  Do what you have to do!!

Many people have successfully used two fingers under.  Have you tried using your index and middle fingers, and just letting the ring finger float?  Most advice I have read about 3 under suggests that the ring finger should bear minimal weight anyway.

Some of the great shooters of the present day shoot two under. One dominated competition many years with draw weights above 70#s.

Myself,no expert, compete shooting two under and switch to 3 under when jumping 13#s to transition more smoothly to my preferred hunting weight.

Utilizing what is best for you personally is the optimum choice.
