I've been working in improving my shot control over the last few weeks with some good results. I shoot right handed, split fingers and cant my bow.
Something I noticed recently is by changing my finger position on the string I tend to shoot better. I use a deep hook and used to pull with all three fingers perpendicular to the string. I would occasionally have a few shots high and right. I've found that by relaxing the index finger that this goes away. Everything feels better, I have better back tension, better control,a better release and I'm more relaxed. I can hold longer to evaluate the shot and if it's not right, let down.
Does this make sense? Has anyone experienced this?
Definitely makes sense to me. I've been very aware of the importance of finger pressure in my own shooting the last few years. It's changed a few times, but I found myself shooting this way a few weeks ago, and it's been working very well for me, consistently, when I do my part.
Deep hook with bottom two fingers ( a bit more on the middle finger) and the top finger resting, relaxed, on the arrow.
I think I came back to this partly, at least, because an injury has me shooting eight pounds lighter than I was.
I'm pretty sure Dan Toelke advocates string fingers in this way.
Only way I can get decent arrow flight with our Genesis bows at NASP class.
Index finger straight down shaft and deep hook with the two under.
Sounds like I've got a winner. I knew a lady that shot this way and she could shoot like a house on fire.
Thanks for the input.
When I shoot split my finger pressure is about 50% middle, 30% index 20% ring. Naturally I can't objective measure that it's just how it feels but, it seems to give me the most repeatable accuracy.
