Title: Back again to 3 Under
Post by: LongStick64 on October 17, 2014, 07:47:00 PM
Went back to 3 Under because I wasn't getting comfortable at anchor with Split finger. No matter what I did, I felt as if I was short drawing the bow, or my draw elbow was drifting in. With 3 under I am anchoring slightly further back and I seem to have a clearer sight picture as well as better eye alignment.
Funny thing is the first time I shot a trad bow, 26 years ago I was at an Outdoors man show in Madison Square Garden in NYC. They had an archery shooting setup with 3D targets. I stepped up to the line and gripped the string 3 under. I really didn't know what to do, scary thing was I was at least hitting the target so often, they kept feeding me arrows.
Lesson should of been not to try and fix what is working.

I had the opposite problem.  3 under never felt comfortable to me, and I couldn't duplicate the feel at anchor.  It did feel like a more secure grip on the string to me, though.  I tried to switch over to the Rick Welch style for a while, using the feather on the tip of the nose.  It still makes sense to me, and I have no doubt that if one can master it one does have a better system of reference at anchor.  It just never felt comfortable to me, though.  The best shooters I have seen all shoot that way, so there must be something to it.

Diamond Paul, I think what you said about duplicating the anchor is what had me frustrated with when I first switched over, since then I use a rotational draw to get to my anchor and it seems to have solved that. I also incorporate the feather to the nose as a draw check.
