Title: If you could pick one book or DVD...
Post by: stick33 on January 14, 2014, 10:56:00 AM
Fairly new to trad and basically self-taught over the past 3 years. Shot my first deer w/ the recurve in 2012, but really getting serious now. Want to take my tuning to the next level and willing to buy something to expedite the process. If you could purchase ONE book or DVD to learn how to really dial in your bow(s) as well as proper form, what would you suggest? Thanks in advance.

As far as tuning and form, "Become the Arrow" (Byron Ferguson), has been the most specifically helpful. Overall, definitely "The Traditional Bowhunter's Handbook" ( T.J. Conrads ) has been the most informative. Both very readable.
Also read some very positive feedback on Byron Ferguson's newer DVD, for concentrating more on tuning.

If I had to only pick one, I'd go for "Shooting the Stickbow" by Tony Camera. The DVD "Masters of the Barebow III" is also good and well done but more limited in scope.

There are also lots of good videos available on the internet. Try searching for "TheMoebow1" and "jimmyblackmon".

With the book and the free videos you have both media sources covered.

I loved the Hunting The Hard Way by Howard Hill. It has arrow making, bow making,How to shoot and draw, stories, and a day dream trip back in time. Totally motivated me to give up the other kinda bow.

From my recollection. I think MOBB 2 was more on tuning than 4.
I think 4 was for tuning the person
And 2 was for the bow.
Either way I'd recommend 2,3 and 4!

"Shooting the Sticbow" by Anthony Camera. A fantastic reference book on all things archery from shooting to equipment with tons of charts in the index.

All of the above certainly but one that has not been mentioned is our very own MoeBow and his YouTube channel.  His videos are a wealth of information.

Byron Ferguson has a new book "Tuning For Extreme Accuracy" that has great reviews. It deals with setting up your bow and arrows.
