Title: My Form...Is my elbow to high?
Post by: ChiefStingingArrow on November 21, 2013, 03:18:00 PM
I took some of the pictures of Terry and put them beside my form....can anyone see anything wrong with my form?
I am concerned with how High my elbow is...should I try to change it?

P.S. I am left eye dominant and so in Aug. I switched to shooting left handed...The pictures show me shooting right handed but that is because I had photoshop switch it around so I could compare myself to Terry.

Elbow looks high to me also, BUT that kink in your wrist is what stands out the most to me. I'm pretty sure you want a straightlimbed line from wrist to elbow. Moebow stresses it in his videos

Chief,

Your overhead picture looks pretty good!  But YES, your string elbow is too high.  Do this,  look at your "front" picture and hold a piece of paper that has a straight edge on it so the edge starts at the pressure point of your bow hand and passes though the arrow nock.  Your elbow should be on that straight edge but yours is WAY above it.  Now do the same thing with Terry's picture.  See how the straight line goes from bow hand through the arrow nock and right onto the elbow? Terry's is perfect.

It is hard to tell just from just a couple static pictures but I suspect that you are using way too much "top of the shoulder" muscle to draw your bow.

As you work on this, I'd also suggest that you stand up straight, relax your shoulders down (both look to be too high).  AFTER you have gotten better alignments, you will be able to go back to the "hunch" if you want -- just not sure why you would want to though.  Terry has GREAT form!!  You can try to emulate him AFTER you have gotten your alignments IMO.

Thanks guys...I felt like I was using my muscles up in my shoulders instead of down in my back.

The picture looks like your bending forward and leaning into your bow.  I think if you'd straighten up your back and get your head up, you may find your elbow will come down some.  If, by chance, your ceiling is too low, you may be better severed by shooting from a stool.

If you look at the two broadside pics...you will see my elbow is above 9...but my shoulders are parralel with the arrow...yout drawing shoulder looks higher....this is putting you out of alignment..

Hold on I'll show you....

That pic shows me a lot of shoulder muscle being used, meaning lack of bone on bone structure, and lots of pressure on your ring finger.

I'd like to see a video of you shooting also. Broadside.

Your overhead pic looks pretty good.
