Post by: Echatham on June 28, 2013, 04:37:00 PM
im finding that as i loosen my grip on the bow it wants to cant inwards (top limb towards me) about ten degrees.  anyone else experience this or know the cause?

It's caused by excessive tension in your string hand/wrist/forearm.  If you learn to relax those links in the chain, your bow shouldn't move when you loosen your grip on the bow.  In other words, your string hand should follow the cant put on the bow by your bow hand.

Thanks McDave. i think you are right... earlier when i got tired is when i noticed it. i think maybe my back got tired and i started pulling more with my arm, inducing tension.  just shot a few arrows fresh and it wasn't happening.

You can learn to be aware of the muscles in your hand and forearm.  One of the things I do during my hold is to be sure they are relaxed.  I also do the same thing you do from time to time: open my bow hand and see what happens to the bow.  If it wants to change position, I know my string hand is not relaxed.
