For some reason I just cant seem to stop getting a high arrow every now and then when I shoot split finger, but when I shoot 3 under I am dead on. I feel like I have a better grip on the string and a better anchor when I use split finger but I shoot 3 under with much better results. It like a damned if I do damned if I dont, lol
Been there, done that. I went from split to three under. Shot really well three under, but couldn't get past the increased bow noise, so went back to split. For the first several weeks, I was shooting over the target, but my tiny brain finally adjusted. Now I shoot low with three under?
Generally, if you use essentially the same anchor references, split finger will have larger gaps than three under. The arrow nock is a little lower in relation to your eye split finger and will seem to hit higher. It is just a matter of learning a different sight picture.

One thing I have noticed is no matter if I use split or 3 under the position of the arrow has not changed at all but I do see that my string hand is more level using 3 under and slightly raised using split and I wonder if the slight shift is causing the errant flight.Maybe when shooting split I need to raise my elbow up slightly to flatten it out.
Maybe, it could be your hand. It only takes about 1/8" position change at anchor to cause an 8" arrow change at a 20 yard target.

I have the opposite problem. I went from split to 3 under and get locked in too low and cannot get my shot up a lot of the time. I had been at it for months and still struggle with getting my shot up.
Makes sense then Arne, thanks !
Longstick64,
What do you use as a first anchor point and what is your aiming method?
I use my top finger on a tooth, thumb under jaw bone. I also line up my eye with the inside or the string.
As far as aiming, I use the site picture as the reference. I don't have a hard gap and I don't rely exclusively on instinct either.
It's possible that if you switch to using your middle finger on that same tooth, you will get the same "site picture" as you would with 3 under. With split finger you are lowering the tail of your arrow by 1 fingers width (lower tail = higher point of impact), so if you change to middle finger on the reference tooth it will raise the tail of the arrow which should lower your point of impact.
I shoot split, and I do exactly what Northwest_bowhunter suggests.
But when I shoot split I anchor my middle finger in the same location as my top finger when I shoot three under so the arrow is in the same place.
Then it's just a matter of getting your brain to adjust to it, it'll come, just concentrate on your spot and don't be looking at your arrow.
Ok I am the winner of the dope award, after doing more research on my form using split, I noticed my anchor point had dropped lower, therefore the high shots. Raised my anchor point and I'm dead on again, back to shooting split.
