Title: More form video Please help
Post by: jonsimoneau on February 12, 2013, 09:40:00 PM
Ok guys, I realize some of these will look different from the videos I posted yesterday. I used to have good form and fairly good accuracy but I have fallen apart.  I have also changed my anchor a little.  But basically, I am looking to get good form back and then ingrain it by blank bale shooting.  Please fire away!

Correct me if I am wrong Arne or Terry, but in the last couple videos it still looks as though my bow arm may be a little low?

Jon,  That is SOOOOO MUCH better!!!!

Your bow arm angle to spine is still low but I think it is because you are "pulling" your torso (upper body) back as you draw.  Watch the last couple clips again.  As you draw, you start with a slight forward lean but then during the draw, see how you lean back (move back) away from the target?  That is what is upsetting your arm to spine angle.  When you are ready to draw, try to set your body straight up and down and don't let it move back as you draw. That should help with the "angle."

Thanks Moe. See myself leaning back also. I think it may be somewhat to fatigue because I've over done it the last few days!  What about collapsing?  This is the thing that bothers me the most.

Didn't detect any collapse your shot looked pretty solid.

Thanks Arne. I wish I could say that will be the last of the form videos. But it won't!  Gotta get it back together and then really get it ingrained. Nothing but blind bale shooting. I appreciate your help on this a lot.

Watched your vids and thought I'd suggest a few changes...
No way!  Man your shot looks solid.  Nice work and I hope you get to whatever level you desire but to my simple archers eyes if your not there, your darn close.

Thanks Mike. I'm getting it back together in  a "controlled" environment. Need to tweak a few things and then hammer it into my brain on the blank bale!

Impressive form to my amateur eyes! Your release looked much cleaner and your bow arm more stable in this round of videos compared to the earlier ones.
Any tips for those of us that are still struggling on what you changed mentally/physically to clean up your release like that?
Nice shooting!

Hey tracks. The reason I was able to make that change so quickly is that I used to have pretty good form. It has fallen apart but when I do it right my muscles remember it. Believe me I don't look like that all the time. That's why I've been in the basement trying to pound it in my head!

Oh and as far as something to change mentally. Creeping/collapsing is often an issue with me. Mobow suggested that instead of thinking about releasing, think about getting your release hand to the follow through position and let the release happen on its own. Works wonders.

NICE!! and nice and slow. That is about how long it takes me to make a proper shot. I hate snappers.

Jon,
As mentioned above. If you stop leaning BACK at fulldraw and lean into the bow at fulldraw, your head willbe paralell w/ your shoulders. If you watch your vids, you'll see your head turns to the side at fulldraw.Correct that and the creep, collaspe, and your release follow thru willbe more true.
