Title: Close Bale
Post by: Sirius Black on April 12, 2012, 07:58:00 PM
How many of you regularly work on close bale? Either dedicating an entire shooting session to it, or maybe just the first few arrows or minutes to shooting form, before you start aiming at a target? I used to do this when I shot compound, and I think it made me a better shot. I think I should continue this practice now with my trad bows. Opinions?

Yes, close bale work with eyes closed and open for form.

I try to mix my practice, eveything from 3 to 40 yards. Do a bunch of walk backs and walk ups, shooting only one arrow at each stop. This has helped me pick a spot and concentrate on it.

I use blank bale between 1/4 and 1/2 of my shooting. I do believe however, that it can be used too much (as in basically everything) in some cases.

I usually shoot between 6-9 arrows at the bale before I start to do my practice. Loosens me up and reinforces what I should be doing.

A little close bale work in every session. Some close shots, eyes closed focusing on form. Some more close shots eyes open focusing on a spot.

I end every session with some close bale shots and 10-second pull-back-and-hold x 3, again focusing on form.

I start just about every session with about 15 minutes of close bale, eyes closed, then move out to 30-35 and start working back in to the bale again.
