Title: Slight form changes= tighter groups
Post by: frassettor on January 23, 2011, 10:12:00 AM
I never really posted in this forum but am absolutly amazed at some things regarding my shooting and I had to share it. Not sure if I truely understand all of it though.

Usually when I shot, I had a habbit of drawing slowly while focusing on my "spot" then when I hit anchor the arrow was gone immeditaly. I always cant my bow at about  1:30 and 7:30. Now I'm not at all about "techie" things and honestly I don't care about the technical side of shooting..BUT... I did happen to change some things about my shooting style simply because I wanted to better my shooting and I noticed some things that had really seemed to make a difference.

I simply take a second while I'm at my anchor and "tuck" my head and face more into the arrow and BAM my groups got tighter. I still cant my bow about the same but it seems by tucking everything into the arrow while at anchor and simply taking that extra second to "burn that hole" has really made a difference... It almost seems like me tucking everything into the arrow has made the most difference. Why, I have no idea     As long as it works for me, what the hay, I'm happy. I'm all about what works for an individual is whats best, and not about "this is the way you have to do it to shoot better".

Sorry about the rambling on, I just wanted to share what has been working for me , and mabey someone could explain as to mabey why when I do these thing , they work.

Everyone is different and if it is working, by all means keep it up.

i had the same thing happen to me and the only thing i could think of, was i wasnt getting my head canted the same as the bow and as soon as i took my time at anchor and tucked my head in i think i was canting my head at the same angle as the bow resulting in tighter groups.

If it works, it will work without explanation. I made the same experience, do what works for you, thats theonly important thing.

Way to go. YOU FOUND ONE OF THE SECRETS OF ARCHERY. Pause at ancor. Allow time for your body to catch up with the shot and when you combine this with nice smooth timing ,your shot will go where you want. Lots more to learn. You are on the right track.

I tuck my chin and touch my nose with the cock feather. Gives me a consistant draw lenght and helps me keep my head still.

I draw middle finger to corner of my mouth and thumb to jaw bone for a consistent anchor. Keep up the good work and shooting a lot consistently. It always comes with a lot of practice. Good Luck

your arrow comes more in line with your eye when you tuck in tight. even if you dont focus on it, if its not in line with eye you wont shoot as well. I found i hit right if i dont get head in, and i have a high cheek bone that keeps arrow out of sight pic, so i bring my hand under cheek bone, like a gun stock basicly. It made a huge difference.
