I know i cant be the only one here who is obsessed with tring to perfect both. If I am then I answeded my own question. Do any of you guys try to swith back and fouth through hunting season with both or just the one type. i dont want to mention the third but i have been guilty of gripping one of those two!
Yep....I shoot what ever I feel like at the moment....mostly longbows....and switch to recurves when I'm in a tree or blind. No worries shooting either at all.
I have both but as for hunting I generally stick with one bow for the whole season.
I'm going to devote this season to one longbow, and probably switch off between two or three recurves.
I'll just "listen" and see which one wants to go that particular day.

I switch back and forth depending on how I feel that day.
im a switcher
In 1972 I switched from a recurve to a Wing Impact(cracked at the handle) cowpoop, shaved one deer opening morning, traded for a wing 4 dangler cowpoop, shot a tree, messed up on two trophies at the same time because my hand was freezing to the handle, bumped a spike in a tree and broke it, then second to last day of the season i broke out my Bear takedown with personally autographed limbs by the man himself and shot a nice buck on a fast trot. I have to admit, although I am a longbow shooter, I love the feel of the Super Kodiak and Bear takedowns.
I stick with only the LB's. Switching causes me grief for some reason. So I go with the flow. :archer:
Switch back and forth all the time. As long as draw weight and GPP arrow weight are close, I find absolutely no difference
I switch back and forth now that I made my own longbow. I love shooting it, but I still give my Bear Grizzly some play time.
For me the longbow feels so much more natural and clean. The sight picture is also better for me because it's slimmer than the recurve. I like both and I can shoot both, but here shortly the recurve will take a back seat and the longbow will see all the practice time leading up to and during the season. I won't switch back and forth from about 2 weeks before the season opener and from there on out.
My poor brain doesn't need any more stress or confusion, so it's best to just pick one and stick with it till hunting season is over.
I've never owned a longbow although shot a bunch & want one "or two or three" but in my collection of recurves I tend to shoot between 3 of em & it really depends on which talks to me the sweetest that day.
Been shooting longbows for the past 5 years, but I just picked up a predator recurve to try for a bit. Smooth and fast, and shot it for about 2 weeks. Last few days however it's been all about my Dwyer Defiant. Slim, and sleek, weighs nothing in your hand and whisper quiet. Seasons approaching so I'm going to have to decide soon and that longbow keeps calling, "Lets go kill something..."
I seem to shoot my recurves better but don't do all that bad with my longbow either....Randy
I shoot whatever moves me.
I used to stay with one ,now I have so many bows its hard not to switch.
I decide what bow I want to hunt with, and shoot that bow exclusively for about 6 weeks before a hunt. That's enough time to give me a good feeling as to what that bow is going to do at any particular distance. If I didn't have 6 weeks to practice with a particular bow, I would hunt with one I've already been shooting regularly.
I used to switch, but stay with my longbow only now. I just can't have the confidence in the recurve because I have to "search", for the right grip each shot, whereas with the longbow it is just right there.
If I have a serius elk hunt or similar it's my curve, small game and deer meat I like the longbow.
As Winterhawk says "shooting arrows is fun" - I use both recurve and longbow. I prefer the longbow.
I am sticking with one of my Schafer recurves this fall. Just one.....
