Title: Consistency Woes - video added.
Post by: Rossco7002 on August 20, 2010, 10:53:00 PM
OK Guys,

Here's a video of my shooting. It's short but gives the general idea and I've noted a few issues myself but please let me know your thoughts as I really want to start improving my accuracy in a more consistent manner.

Thanks,

Overall, your form looks fairly solid but there are a few things I see.

First, your rhythm looks hurried. You pull the bow to anchor really quickly and let it go fast. Personally, I'd work on slowing down the draw and achieving a solid, positive anchor position. Once you've anchored give your brain a little time to focus on the target before releasing.

Tying into the first point, it appears that you are pulling past your anchor slightly and settling into it. This is creating a slight collapse before the release. For most people doing this creates a loss of back tension, inconsistent draw length, and general lack of control. When you draw back slow down as you approach your face. Keep the tension moving back just a little as you find anchor, than after solidifying you aim increase your pull through until the release happens.

btw, your follow through looks pretty solid. Good bow arm and end position

looking good for the form i see no collaps !! backtension looks there. just slow down and consintrate on the target and it looks like you will be fine .

Is your elbow maybe a bit high when you're at full draw?  From the angle of the camera it seems like it is.

With the first shot I can see that I overshoot my anchor and then settle back to it, I'm trying to slow down my draw to prevent this and generate a longer hold before release. It seems to be reducing the number of 'flyer' shots I make in a session. I now use a lighter weight bow for 50% of my shots which allows me to build that hold into muscle memory more easily.

Not sure about the elbow. First shot looks OK but the second it's hard to tell.
