Title: chin to shoulder
Post by: Ray on July 04, 2010, 10:47:00 AM
How many of you shoot this way.I recently sat through a Mike Fedora shooting clinic.Mike recomended holding your chin to your shoulder with an open stance.Never tried this before but it seems like it would stop the bobble head effect. This would add a more solid rear sight effect.

My shoulders aren't that big and doing so would mean I'm either really bending my head over, which is really uncomfortable, or my shoulder has to come up and bring me out of alignment.

Or maybe I'm doing it wrong...

I have to bring my shoulder up also, and extend my arm all the way.Seems uncomfortable to me,just wondering if anyone shoots like this.Mike doesn't have much of a neck, maybe why it works for him.

for MOST folks, if you can touch your chin to your shoulder at full draw -- your bow shoulder is MUCH too high and you're asking for shoulder joint problems sooner or later.  You should have a low and relaxed bow shoulder.  All due respect to Mike Fedora, I did not sit through his class so don't know the context he may have said this but my training says that this is not a good way to shoot.

If I remember correctly, Mike uses a very high anchor, which means he will have to elevate his bow hand a bit even on short shots.  Because of this, it might be feasible for him to touch his chin to his bow arm shoulder, but it might not work for you.  I would think that it would cause some unneeded muscle tension.  Most good shots have their own little quirks that work great for them, but don't necessarily work for everyone else.  You need to try it and see how it works for you.  If it doesn't feel comfortable, don't do it.

I could do it with my 47lb bow but to try that with my 75lb bow, I would tear my neck muscles.
