I seem to get the best release when I place the string in front of the finger crease, thereby allowing the string to roll off after relaxing the fingers. It even sounds like a "clean" release. Arrows fly straight to the target/spot!
The string is proximal to the crease, but not in it.

Rick Welch teaches the string position you describe, as opposed to the deep hook. I find that it works well with lighter poundage bows, but puts too much stress on my fingertips, making it difficult to relax my hand, with heavier weight bows.
Do you find that the shot is more quite when you shoot with the sting in front of the crease or in a deep hook position?
I ask because It seems alot louder for me when I use it in the deep hook.
what you are most likely hearing is the string coming off the tab...PR
When I concentrate on the deep hook thats what I use but I have shot off my finger tips a real long time...PR
Use what works for "you".
