Title: Bow torque
Post by: Johan van Niekerk on March 25, 2010, 02:05:00 PM
I used to think torque is really only something to worry about with a compound bow. During my last 3D competition I suddenly started shooting left (waaaaayyyy left) and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I really focussed on my anchorpoint, since this was suspect number one, and it just did not help. I concentrated on lining up correctly, on not dropping my bow arm, etc. nothing helped. Back home I've been shooting for the last 2 weeks trying to get rid of this annoying problem, and at times it would disappear and then suddenly its right back.

Last night I suddenly realized I was gripping the bow differently (This is a new bow, my old one broke  :(  ) and this resulted in torque. On my release the bow itself torqued so that the arrow would be pointed left!! I never realized during the draw, simply because the draw itself straightned everything. I only noticed when holding the bow up with an arrow nocked and simply looking to see if I could see anything. The arrow was pointing waaay left!

Now I can once again hit a golfball at 20 yards  :)

Thought I'd post it here. It might just help someone else sort out a similar issue
