Title: Shooting Video, and pic - Please Help Form!
Post by: Over&Under on May 11, 2009, 08:19:00 PM
I took this video of me shooting and I know already the last arrow I got nervous and hurried the shot, I will try and get a vid from above but did include a pic of from overhead.

Let me know what you guys see that I don't.  If you click on it you can see the vid.

Thanks alot!

Jake

Looks like you left out the video.....but from the pic...looks like you are not getting full extension on your draw as your elbow isn't close to 6 o'clock.

Your shoulder is still pointing a bit left...but not worried about that as much as your elbow not being at least in line with the arrow...and really needs to be more in line with your wrist power point(orange line) making your elbow power point inline being parallel with your arrow.

Thanks Terry

I think the link to the vid works, and I will try and update some with a vid overhead and more pics after trying to my elbow back more.

OK...now that you have posted the video...I can see why your elbow is not back...you have a 'short anchor point'...and are definitely not getting full extension.

Overall you alignment and release look good, but you are short drawing by an inch and a half it looks like to me.  That is the only thing keeping you from the magic 'T'.

Not much else to work on...lookin good!

You posted while I was posting....no worries.  Always like to help folks if I can.  Nothing like seeing an arrow going exactly where you want it to.

Thanks man! Here is another pic of me trying to get more extension.

I will try and update a vid of me shooting while trying to get full extension.

Jake, You don't need to bend over more to get a full extension...in fact I find the more you bend over, the harder it is to achieve.

Not saying it can't be done, but easier for me a little more upright. More like the position of your video....

Curt

Good advice, but it feels, regardless of how much bend, that if I try and extend more, my shoulder, arm, face, and chest are beginning to move into the path of the string.

Is merely the need to draw furher or touch shoulder blades together more, or a combo of both?

Thanks
Jake

Your elbow will come straight back till it gets to a certain point as you near anchor, and then your elbow will curve around like its going behind you.

Your drawing elbow path will make a 'J' shape when all is said and done.

Terry

For some reason that kindof discription makes sense to me.  I will give that a try and post some more pics later.

Thanks
Jake

Hi Jake how have you been? The only problem I see in the video is that your arrows are in your quiver upside down???LOL!!! All kidding aside, I always anchored at the corner of my mouth and I only drew about 27 inches and my elbow stuck out like yours in the picture. I started reading alot on here and figured out that I was not getting to full draw, by looking in a mirror your elbow should dissapear. I found that if I anchored my thumb under my jawbone that gave me another inch of draw length and it lined me up better. Just my two cents and what seemed to work for me hope this helps you out. I became way more consistent on my shots but now I need to work on my release and plucking the string. Take care..Henry

Henry

I have been good, just swamped at work, which I guess could be a good thing these days.  How bout you?

That is some great advise about the mirror, I have done that before, but never looked straight on, only from the side, I will definatly try that!

I anchor like you, finger at corner of mouth, and thumb behind jaw,(may not appear that way in vid) but I just need a little more extension.  I was practicing that last night and think the mirror trick may help.

Thanks for your thoughts, and take care!

Jake

I have been doing good also thanks. I do not even use the corner of my mouth anymore. I put my thumb under my jaw and the back of my jawbone rests in the meaty part of my hand between my thumb and pointer. I can also feel my earlobe on the nuckle of my pointer finger. As soon as I started doing it that way it felt way more comfortable than the way I had been anchoring. I hope this helps, but of course we are all built different so what works for one may not for another. TLK2UL8R..Henry

If I am imagining it right is your thumb straightned out instead of curled in?
