Title: Aiming
Post by: JeffersonD on April 23, 2009, 03:29:00 PM
I just started shooting and have only shot twice last weekend with my girlfriend and her dad.  I was able to hit the bulls eye a few times but I never aimed.  I just shot towards the target and got lucky.  When I pulled back I really tried to make sure I everything was lined up which may be my problem.  I would hold it for an average of 5 seconds every time I pulled back to shoot.  If anyone could help me.  Maybe I need to shoot quicker.

Thanks

Welcome! You are asking the $64,000 question. There are lots of people here much more equipped to help than I am. I will say that each of us has our own style in some way. What works for one may not work for someone else. I did find G. Fred Asbell's book "Instinctive Shooting" to be very helpful. The analogy the Mr. Asbell uses about throwing a ball just made sense to me. Keep it fun!!!

Thanks guys.  I think I need to move my head over on top of the arrow more.  I usually keep my head straight instead of getting in the line of sight.  I hope that helps.  It looks like it will be at least till next Thursday that I can shoot again due to finals but I'm going to try some of that out.  Thanks guys so much

Jeff

A book that helped me out is called " Become the Arrow" By Byron Ferguson.

Being that I shoot south paw. The regular do it this way instruction for right handers didnt work to well.

What Mike said about "Become the Arrow" by Byron Ferguson. This book saved me many years of trial and error. It was very instrumental in getting me on the right path to better shooting and made it much more fun to shoot trad too.
