Title: Anchor Trouble
Post by: Trad Lad on February 01, 2009, 02:44:00 PM
By all rights I shoulldn't have to do this thread as I have been shooting traditional since 2000 and you would think I would have all my issues worked out, none the less here Iam. Can anyone help???
I shoot two bows both about the same weight, it figures to be about 55# at 30inches. I do not have trouble getting to an anchor point when I do not have an arrow on the shelf, but when I am actually shooting I cannot consistently bring the string to a proper anchor. I always realease an inch or so ahead of being set, therefore without a proper anchor. Obviously it can create some pretty irratic shots.
Any suggestions.

Sounds like you have target panic. Clicker might help. Doesn't always work for everyone, I hope it works for you. Good Luck

"Hello, my name is John and I have target panic"
Seriously, I have had the same problem. My suggestion, get Dr. Jay Kidwell's book "Instinctive Archery Insights".
Read it, then read it again, especially the chapter on target panic. Then do the drills he suggests, they work!
Good Luck,
John

Thanks all for your help. I especially like John's suggestion of Jay Kidwell's book. I am going to 3 Rivers Archery next week end and intend to pick it up.
Right now I am trying to count to two and it is working pretty well, but there is little accuracy to the result of the shot.

Don't even think about accuaracy while you're practicing getting your form back. You'll only do damage.
