Title: Hitting arm, need HELP!!!!
Post by: Lechwe on December 01, 2008, 10:22:00 PM
OK, here's the deal. I have a Black Widow PSA with standard grip. I hit my arm guard while shooting. I shoot this bow pretty well. Widow sent me another riser with the Asbel grip (slightly thicker and more palm swell) to try. I don't seem to hit my arm as much but I don't really like how the grip feels either.

I am ordering a new bow so I have a back up and really want to stay with the narrower grip so they are the same. Hitting the arm must have an effect on arrow flight.

How can I adjust my form to reduce the slapping and not affect my accuracy?

Thanks for the help.

when I hit my arm it was either: 1, letting my shoulder colasped forward  2, plucking  3, needed to slightly open stance  4, torquing

In addition to what Bear Heart said, too tight of a grip, moving the contact point between the thumb and forefinger and the riser too far in toward the middle of the riser, not coming to a full draw, shooting with a straight bow arm rather than a little bend in the elbow.

Opening my stance seems to have helped some. Haven't had a chance to try the other suggestions yet. Anyone else have anything to add?

Thanks

Archers have been slapping their arms and therefor using armguards for thousands of years. So long as it occurs mostly after the arrow has left the string, it has little or no effect on arrow flight.

Be careful not to screw up your form trying to avoid it. - lbg

My downfall wearing baggy clothes that seem fine until you cant the bow and it falls onto the string.   :banghead:
