Title: arrows grouping to the right
Post by: 2elkhunt on August 01, 2008, 05:22:00 PM
I'm trying to tune a new bow it is 47#@28' and I draw 29" so I think I am shooting about 50#. I'm shooting 30" 2016 arrows with 125gr points and they are grouping good but always to the right about 2-3 inches.Does this mean the spine is weak, should I build out my strike plate a little,

Bill,

It could be a number of things. If you want to know for sure if they are too weak, strip the feathers off of one of them and shoot it.

If you're right handed and the nock kicks left and or darts to the right of your target...than it's most likely weak.

You now have a few choices based on your bareshaft test.

#1. shorten the arrow until the bareshaft flies properly.
#2. get new arrows that are stiffer in spine.
#3. use lighter points.

If you are getting good flight, and pinwheel fletch spin......you might try building your strike plate out with a strip of thin leather...you might even cut a strip, wide as a paper match, off your strike plate and use it.

I had a bow once that shot lazer beams, but 4-5 inches right at 20 yards....did the above, and this was the result........

Oh yea...and #4. What Terry said...build the side plate out or screw your cushion plunger in more.  ;)

2elfhunt ,
I have the same problem with one of my favoite bows which is now my only bow . I am determined to work out the problem because I love this bow . Im convinced its the style of grip because the bow is tuned for perfect arrow flight with bareshaft and broadheads , just 2 to 3 inches to the right . Im going to try the thicker side plate as Terry sugested and see hows it tunes and shoots . I thought it was just me that had the shooting right problem but even a great shooter like Terry had to set his bow up a little diffrent to hit what he was looking at so mabey thats the fix .
