Title: string walking a "pretty" bow?
Post by: deermaster1 on April 23, 2008, 02:05:00 PM
i want to try string walking but i want to shoot a "pretty" wood recurve rather than a metal recurve. if it tillered 3/8" positive and am shooting of a stick on flipper rest, can it work good enough for 30 yard and less hunting accuracy? thanks for any info!

If you are string walking it would be better if the tiller is even.
That is if both limbs measure the same you will have better luck    IMO

Harold Couch giving string walking advice? Isn't that one of the biblical signs of armageddon?  :scared:

Just kidding with you, old friend. See you at Blackhawk.   :wavey:

Jason, i was some what of a "walker" back in my younger days, even done some with them bows with the funny round things on the end of the limbs.
you all ready missed 3 shoots , the one in feb. was a good one if you like it white.

Man, I miss Black Hawk Field Archer's. I have such found memories of that club!

deermaster1,

Heck yea! There's no real reason why you shouldn't achieve the accuracy you're looking for as far as I know. The only thing that might give you a slight problem is based on not being able to tune the bow properly due to the tiller as Harold mentioned.

3/8" positive is pretty high even for split finger. I've stringwalked a lot with bows in the 1/8" positive range with no problems, but I've never owned a bow that was 3/8" positive. Typically I set up my bows at zero tiller. But why not just give it a try; what have you got to lose? Let us know how it works.

Perhaps you could have the bow retillered ?
