Title: Anchor Problems
Post by: Hippy on April 03, 2008, 08:23:00 AM
I have a 60", 60lb@28" Recurve, I cannot get back to anchor like most guys I see or talk to.  It feels like the bow stops when I pull it back just short of where I want to anchor.  I was thinking maybe my draw length is longer than I thought or maybe I need a 62" bow.  Any suggestions.

Might be the weight is too heavy, causing a form of target panic- your mind making you release early, due to the weight. Try a lighter, same style Bow and see if that helps. Duane

Thanks dagwood,  I either thought about a lighter bow or one a little longer.

No problem. When I was having that problem, I dropped 5#, and was able to consistently hit my anchor.Good luck,  Duane

Could also be the bow is stacking terribly. Or you may have a case of target panic.

More like TP, I got it for year. I come to within a 1/2 inch of the tab hitting my face and most times that when I release. Not a good idea, I tried all the methods and nothing works, some days I lock into the ancor and all goes well, then there is the other days and It is a mind game. I find I got another bow that was 8 lbs light limbs on it, to see if this could help, I found still had the same problem, so now I have a indoor bow and one for hunting.

Instead of working on hitting your anchor on 3D targets or at a target that is 10+ yards out. What has worked for me and some others that I know is to get 5' from a back stop and think nothing of aiming, just hitting anchor. Every person is different and how many shots at 5' you need to ingrain this into your brain is going to differ. If I can, before every shoot, I like to do this for 3-5 arrows just so I know what every thing is supposed to feel like when I shoot.

Have you tried drawing and anchoring with your eyes closed?  If you have no problems coming to a solid anchor with your eyes closed then you know your problem is mental, ie target panic.
