I have two Browning Mohawk recurves 54" can anyone tell how to measure for what length string I need? am trying to get them set up for my boy's to shoot
Measure from nock to nock along the curvature of the bow on the back of the bow. Subtract four inches from that number for the correct string length.
Thanks Orion I will do that, appriciate the info. Happy shooting :archer:
Orion, does that go for longbows too?
Concerning longbow strings: I don't know where it's written, but when I asked this same question the anwswer given to me was: 4" for recurves, and 5" for longbows.
Orion is exactly right for recurves. However, for longbows, it's also right for the measuring part - but you only subtract 3", not 5". Remember it is 1" less, not one inch more, than the subtraction for a recurve. Easy to remember (maybe) if you think about you want a "long"er string for a "long"bow.
You'd think it would be a simple answer but chew on this. My old Martin bushmaster manual says the string should be 4-5" shorter than its AMO length. My new Savannah says the bowstring should be 3" shorter than its AMO. Plus the brace height range on the older bows was 1/2", now its 3/4". Similar bows. Just something to make you go hmmmm?
