I haven't seen where anyone started this yet. So I'll get it going with my MONSTER find. Hey, anybody can spot big antlers in the woods. Lol

Just saw two last night with full racks yet.

This one is three inches base to tip. I agree with Bvas, anybody can find big antlers! :)
Still seeing head gear attached here
Yup
Our rut's in full swing. Love this thread
Hahaha looks like what I find around here!
Yeah they are still out hard at it in rut right now. I am going to make it a point to get out after some sheds more this year!
My father in law told me that sheds are participation awards for people or who can't hunt!! I told him I suck at finding sheds too so what does that mean.? Lol
Oops.. double post
Randy, thought you found a couple sheds? LOL

First find!My game warden friend has an awesome duck dog and I got a pup from him. He seemed a little put out with me not using him to chase ducks. He'll have to get over it as right now this pup is my number one!

We ended up having a pretty good day. Henry is 7 months old and not only is working to becoming a shed dog, he did a good job retrieving squirrels. He got tired and only found the one on his own, but we have a start!

Henry isn't photo shy. The girls should be impressed.
Good stuff Mike
I agree
Good stuff mike
Henry does look a little excited. Nice looking pup.
I've got trailcam pics in SE Texas with headgear missing but I haven't found any yet. Next week I plan on looking every afternoon but normally, I only find one every couple of years. We don't have that many deer here anyway.
Best of luck to all.
I haven't started serious looking yet. I'm IMPATIENTLY waiting for one in particular to drop his other side.
He's been lopsided for at least two weeks!!!

My little brother found a 4 pt and 5 point in southern wi, one was fresh. With the fresh snow, they might be buried now. still bucks carrying too.
I found a matched set yesterday. It was sitting for 2 years before I found it. They are from a deer we have a lot of history with. Funny thing is, I found one of his sheds last spring and this set was no more than 15 yards away. Don't know how I missed them.
Friend of mine found a giant set this morning
Here is the set I found a couple days ago.

My son Trent and I were at the KS bunny stomp this past weekend and found this one. Pretty cool 3 point.

Snake, that's a cool shed!
It's amazing to me how many of you find sheds...I've spent hours looking numerous times over my lifetime and have NEVER found a single shed. My 6 year old at-the-time son (he's now 10), found one outside my aunt's home just playing. A year later, he was running around the woods at an outdoor wedding venue after the ceremony and found another on the edge of the woodline. Here I am...37 years old and have NEVER found one after looking MANY times. I must not have the magic touch.
Had a good day today. Went to some public and found a fresh 4 point side and 3 dead heads.

Keep at it, you will find one when least expected. I've only found a year old one while looking for them. The rest came while scouting and dragging out deer.

Sure is
found this one, thought it was a dead stick at a distance because it was so long.... then started looking for the other side. i was so excited when I found the other side I forgot to take a picture of where it was laying.

this the second matched pair I have ever found.
Any advice on where to look in hill and valley terrain like N.W. Georgia? Ridges, valleys, thickets? We also have some small food plots, a couple of lakes and creeks on the property.
I've only found a couple of small sheds in my 56 years of hunting, so I am overdue!
I got to see a dandy one side today, a kid I know chased me down to show me a chewed year old 6 point side.
Base was about 6" C (est) and between G2 and G3 was really thick and kind of webbed. He had measured it and for you numbers guys it scored 74" with the ends chewed off almost all points.
I know it was the heaviest the farthest out on main beam of any rack I've seen here. Wish I'd gotten a pic.
We have a herd from california that winters above my house. Last week the bucks still sported headgear, but they hang in the same stands of mountain mahoganies so I am hopeful. Our DOW is talking permits to shed hunt. All about money
I think CO may already sell shed permits ....
I can understand permits to sell antlers but permits to be allowed to search for them? really?
Next you will need permits to go berry picking! damn, I may have just gave those darn grubby, money mismanaging grass holes another revenue source. :scared:
I will leave an antler lay on the ground before paying to pick it up.
If we are supposed to start paying to pick them up I guess I'm just gonna be an outlaw. The government takes enough money from us as it is.

I was thinking the same thing.......I will not pay for something I found in the woods.......just won't tell anyone. What's next, pay to pick mushrooms for your own use.
Spent about 3hrs walking today. As usual, the big sheds I'm looking for continue to elude me. But I didn't come home empty handed. Found another monster to add to the collection.

Hey, it's tough to find them small ones.......well done. It will be easy to see the big ones down the road.
First one of the season!

This is that buck in the background....
Already looking forward to seeing what he will do this year!

My brother and I walked around our farm some today. I got 2 and he got 1. Not too bad.

Colorado isn't selling permits to shed hunt. They were thinking about it earlier but decided not to charge to hunt sheds. However, they did set a date to allow people in to start searching to keep the stress off wintering elk and deer.

AMEN to that ron...whats this world coming too?? It's all about the almighty dollar!
Finally some good luck finding the bigger sheds. A bud and I were out for about four hours today. We each found one, but he graciously gave me his find since we were searching my hunting grounds.

Both are from fine bucks-hope you run into them in the fall-good luck.
My wife found one of the sides of the buck that I was after this past fall. It's the biggest one she's ever found, so she was pretty pumped up.

Great sheds! Enjoying the thread!
Saw a heavy racked 8 or 10 point today near my house. Guess some are dropping late this season
I had a cool thing happen to me around Dec. 19. I was driving to my hunting land and I was driving slow because it was sleeting. Just as I was coming into a corner a nice 8 pt buck ran across the road right in front of the truck and entered a field. As I was making the corner I kept watching over my shoulder and I saw him jump the far fence - minus his headgear... I backed up to the field approach and could see both antlers sticking out of the snow about 100 yards out there. When I hustled out to get them I noticed they had each popped off one bound apart, just randomly I guess.
The second part of the story is once I got to the property I picked a stand I on a fence crossing. I wasn't settled in more than 15 minutes when I looked over my shoulder and saw a twin of the shed buck approaching the crossing 20 yards behind me. Wind was perfect and the trail split and went on each side of my stand, I was all ready. He jumped the fence and looked toward the edge of my property where a snowmobile trail runs along the border. He got nervous and skirted me at 30 yards in the brush, as soon as he was out of sight a tractor showed up dragging a trail groomer. This is a very remote area and it was the only time of the year the trail was groomed...
Within an hours time I had unique encounters with identical bucks - one lucky and one unlucky!
I am struggling to get the picture of the sheds posted, the 8 point was about 120 inch class.
Good stuff guys, was thinking of taking a walk this morning but a fresh blanket of snow will be difficult to find them under.
Been out a few more times without much luck. Did find one old little one. Chewed up and discolored. Decided to leave it so the squirrels could get their mineral intake. ;)

But then the best find of all!!
A young moose shed!!! I didn't even know we had moose in Ohio??? :biglaugh:

A friend of mine that is an official scorer says he should be close to 120". Hopefully he will make P&Y next fall. I'll be after him anyway.
Let's get this back to the top. I know there's gotta be more people finding sheds by now.
Here's one I found today. To bad the squirrels found it first.

I've heard that deer will chew sheds as well as rodents-suspect hard winters might deplete calcium.
The kids and I had a good couple of good weekends in the woods!

About 2 weeks ago I saw some deer in velvet already, two groups, one in southern Colorado (mulies) and the the other in northern Oklahoma (white tails). BUt last evening I saw a bachelor group that several still had hard antlers from last year. Yet I've seen yearlings already have buttons growing here. Strange.
Always love this thread. Keep me coming
with al the fresh snow here, it will be another couple weeks before we can see them again. Some great finds so far, keep them coming!
Got out for a short hike this morning. Still a few out there..

Not exactly a shed, but my son and I found this while out searching for some geocaches on nearby state game lands.
There was still some velvet on the antlers, so I don't think it was an unrecovered kill from a hunter. It would have died prior to the start of our hunting season in 2017. Hmmmm......

One of my close buds enjoys shed hunting as much as the hunt. He gets out several times a week and goes at it hard.
It is most wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the youth.
Spectacular Dead Head!
Received a fresh foot of snow last night and 8-15 more on the way. It will delay my search some but it will prevent squirrels from eating them as fast..
Gotta like finding them stacked on top of each other, especially when the match to one is laying 10 yards away.

This is a neat thread. Each year for the past five years my brother and I have had a bet going as to who finds the first shed. $10 to the winner and an additional $5 for every tine, so there is potential to win a decent amount. So far in the 5 years we've done it neither of us has had to pay anything. :biglaugh:
Nice little find while turkey hunting. Set up my blind in the dark. After the morning sit, I climbed out to gather decoys and found this. If I'd shifted the blind 5' it would have been in the blind with me.

My grandson with the first of the year
:o :o :o
Looks like a great time! Your grandson looks like an elk antler gladiator holding those things!!
Finally got out stumping and shed hunting for elk. Found a couple old rotten elk sheds but a real nice muley set laying on top of each other. Exciting! Biggest mule deer I've found by a long shot, main beams almost 24"

I found a nice matched set this year, but my favorite was this one my boy "found!"(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180618/a738c8492c331f09015140390d97a882.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180618/b5ab4b8562b3dc48d3436ab01a6ae707.jpg)
