I have a 62" Hoyt Satori on the way. It have a 19" riser with 50# medium Satori limbs (weighted on 21" riser), so it should be adjustable in the range of 50-54#@28". My draw length is 29", so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'd be expecting a weight of 53-57#@29". Any experience or helpful tips tuning these bows would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds close, however with a 29" draw and mediums I would set the limb bolts turned all the way out, approx. 5 turns and not get brace height to high, otherwise you will be stressing the limbs a lot and may get stacking. Have fun with it.
Brent, I recommend a accutune from The Push guys. It will make tuning so easy you'll wonder why the heck you've been cutting arrows for all these years.
katman is correct. Use the limb bolts to adjust your preload to your draw length so it doesn't stack. Don't worry about weight just pay attention to preload.
So I start with ensuring that the limbs are aligned laterally with the riser and set my nock point 1/2 in high. Then I set the limb bolts to their mid setting. 2 turns out from all the way in. Set tiller. (I set it at even as I'm a 3 under shooter) Finally I set my centershot with the arrow tip just outside the centerline of the string. All of these above settings are my starting points.
Then I begin trying arrows. Set nock point based on tuning method. If they are a little weak I can
1. Adjust the tiller bolts out a little bit at a time to decrease draw weight until it flies straight. No more than 4 turns out from all the way in.
2. Adjust my center shot out until it flies straight.
3. Do both
Or you can also cut length or take off tip weight.
I only do one at a time though so I only change one variable at a time.
If they are a little stiff you can.
1. Turn the tiller bolts in to raise draw weight until you get good flight.
2. Add point weight
If your arrows are way stiff or weak you will need to get another spine, but anything close you can tune to the bow.
I like to start with a slightly weak shaft and increase draw weight to get it flying straight, this allows my center shot and arrow tip to be closer to the string, not sure if it makes a tinker's damn, but it's what I do.
With a 29in draw and medium limbs I don't think you'll have to worry about stacking, I don,t with a 28.5 draw.
Also when if you adjust the tiller bolts either in or out make sure you turn them the same amount to keep the tiller the same.
I know this sounds tricky but it's really not.
