I've been shooting only longbows the last few years, but I've always wanted a super kodiak....I always keep an eye on Craigslist and I saw a super k in the weight I wanted....there were only 2 pics on the add and they looked like it was a recent model.....met the seller and he has this. I believe it's from '69-'71....there are a few things that make me a touch nervous, some stress marks you can see in the pics. I couldn't hear any creaky sounds when drawing so I pulled the trigger for a very good price, I think....I'm hoping these stress marks aren't anything to worry about because this bow shoots like an absolutely dream, the arrows just stack up where I'm looking and she's surprisingly quiet....please tell me that I should not stress about the condition lol the money I paid isn't the issue, I just really really love this bow and I don't want her to be a decoration.

I went to your first pick. Looks like maybe a 1972.
The Super Kodiak logo. Back or belly side?

Can you see my pics? I can't lol.....not sure I understand the question about the logo.
No. I had to hit reply with a quote, copy your link, paste it in my address bar to go to the imgur website to see the photo.
Which side of the limb is the SK logo? Back or belly?
I would say the belly of the curve or the front.....I think I figured out why my pics aren't working, I'll try again

1971.
Logo on the back of upper limb.
Is there anything in these pics that would make anyone concerned about shooting his bow?
Shoot away. Rust discoloration from the bushing isn't an issue and those little vertical stress lines are not rare and plenty are still shot that have them
Shoot away, very common on older bows.
The stress lines are common, especially old Bears. Not to worry.
You have an absolute gem there.
I have a number of old Bear bows with stress lines much worse than that. Never have had an issue,
If you are going to use the bow in wet weather I would either use a good quality car wax, or put several coats of wipe-on Minwax over the entire bow.
the street lines on my Supermag 48" were way worse than that, and I had zero concerns anout it.
That bow will out last you and who ever it gets passed on to! Nice stick
Thank you all for the replies! I'm very glad to hear I shouldn't be worried because I am absolutely loving this bow. I love my longbows but the higher wrist position on this bow seems to fit me really well, the extra weight is helpful too.
Most of those marks are in the finish. The long lines may be in the glass and in harsh condition hunting I would probably sand a bit and fill them with thin Loctite. I use the blue professional. Wipe off excess after it sets a bit and then lightly block sand and spray with Helmsman gloss to match into the origonal finish. That will seal out all moisture . The bow killer. You got a great bow,
God bless, Steve
I've got them on my 71 or 72 SK and shoot it regularly. They are just stress lines in the finish. Have at 'er and enjoy it.
Beautiful 1971. Don't be afraid to refinish it some day.
Nice score!
They're just "age lines". Nothing to worry about.
Enjoy your new old bow. If you ever get sick of it, mail it to me.
Thanks fellas....yeah I've been shooting the snot out of this old girl and she spins them out there really nicely. Coming from compounds and then shooting longbows for a few years, the grip just feels like coming home. Im really liking going back to a higher wrist grip.....I'm surpised how quiet this bow is, no silencers yet, just dialed the brace height in and the only thing I hear is the arrow hitting the target. I'm a fan!
Beautiful bow
Looks very much like my SK, lines in glass, yellowed white overlay, etc. I put a B-55 string on mine from Ten Ring strings. Mite be my imagination but it seems to have more pep. I am orginal owner, still have warranty card. Mine also has the Victor sticker on it.
