Hey guys I wanted to get some opinions on using decoys for whitetails. I had a few opportunities this season out of the same stand where i called in 2 different super nice bucks. Both came in to calling but did not get close enough for a shot because they did not see what they were looking for. I was thinking a decoy might help. Have y'all had luck with decoys? I was looking at the foldable Montana decoys for ease of carry.

Sure they work but it's just like anything, I didn't work all the time. But when they do it sure is exciting!!!
I haven't pulled mine out to use it in about 5 years but had the perfect spot for it this year, this is the setup.

He came in perfect, to the down wind side which put him at about 12 yards and looking at the decoy!
Just a little to small...
If you have open terrain and you use calling as part of your bag of tricks then a decoy can really be an asset!

I stopped using mine. Had two bucks almost turn inside out when they saw it.
100 percent of the time, decoys have kept the deers attention allowing me a better chance to draw and shoot, even stand up, get my bow off the hook and shoot sometimes. But from my experience, does aren't attracted to the decoys, but they do make them more at ease when they encounter them from the right direction, but will or can spook them when they approach them from the wrong direction. I always carry at least one and usually two and try to display them where they are visible from two different directions during the rut. After the rut, I try to put them off the trail the opposite side from me so as a doe comes along the trail and sees it, she will be looking away from me. Another trick I do is use a full length unfletched arrow with broadhead to use in place of the steel posts that come with it, it makes the deer look bedded, or like a doe does in front of a buck when they're chasing

On my field it spooked the does off the field. I think it was the upright "alert" position. Maybe a feeding deer would have been different.
