Hunter's creed:
1. always practice, countless hours.
2. make ethical shots.
3. Honor the query's spirit.
Since the beginning, man has been the hunter. That hunting spirit runs deep in my soul. I am humbled to be able to harvest my first game with trad gear. It may not mean a lot of some, but to me it connects me to the salt of the earth.
I am a convert. I harvested a bear in 2008 with compound, but I said never again. It felt so sterile with the sight, trigger, wheels. Trad and primitive is for me.
About this shot:
It was with my recurve at 15+ yards on a small moving mark, moving from my right to left. I drew as I realized it was about to moving in from of me while he was obscured by brush. I had the perfect line up as I let loose. He has already provided sustenance to nourish my body and soul. I cooked up his heart and abdominal wall. Other than being tough meat, it was perfectly fine fare. I took a dab of his blood and marked my bow. He shall always be with me.
Two videos are below, included. Cheers.
The countless hours of practice make this a possible and ethical take down. I shall only redouble my practice efforts, as there is much room for improvement

Nice ethical shot! Tell me, how does opossum taste? Never had it, never thought of trying it....definitely curious
Cool deal , I love smallgame hunting....
,,Sam,,
I am curious too as to how you will cook him up.
Congrats, I went thru a condensed survival training in the air Force during air evac school, we trapped a opossum for dinner.
Skinned it, rubbed it down with powdered soup mix, wrapped it in tin foil and placed it in the hot cools.
Very greasy but much like chicken. Can't say we ate the abdominal wall though.
Shoot straight. Kevin
Nice work
I found a recipe in the recipe bar b q section here on trad gang. I plan to use sweet potato and onion. It is said that with so much fat, you can cook till the meat is rendered like a rendering plant. The sweet potato and rendered grease and melted meat should make for good fare.
I ate the abdominal wall. It was tough. It is a bit like eating chicken gizzards. Tough but taste and has consistency like gizzard.
The heart, on the other hand, was not bad at all. It was not tough. It somehow had a taste like a bit of liver (light hint of liver flavor . . . I suppose that is the gamey taste a little, maybe).
I shall report of the rendered fatty stew (although the way I processed the meat, there isn't that much fat, actually. If you saw the video, it really looks like lean rabbit.).
Anyways, the rendered stew should go well with rice or bread.
I should take video of it.
All the major hunting season is pretty over. So, at this point, it is game where ever I can get it. There is is still duck season. I do have stamp for it, so I shall try to arrow a duck.
I am in the brotherhood of the trad gear. I got rid of my compound long ago. I feel more connected with this little possum than I do with the bear that I sterilely took with a mechanical machine (compound). I relive the shot on the opossum and to have that arrow loose and fly right on the mark is a feeling of connectedness that is hard to achieve with mechanical devices. This coming season, I will be scouting a lot and use my relentless pursuit hunting spirit to connect with bear, deer, and what have yous.
cheers.
You should measure the tail. Looks like it could make PY to me. :bigsmyl: congrats.
Good shot.
I am going to take the vid down. : )
thank you for watching.
I just don't want to get hassled by the cali commies.
cheers.
