Going through a box of my dad's things who passed on 4/12/2013, and found this little knife. I never saw him wear it, it has no sheath, but it was also with a picture of my uncle who died in Vietnam. Best I can guess is It was probably my uncles. They both hunted and fished a lot as kids. There are a few other scenarios but I'm sticking with this one for now.
Nice.....is it a Western, Kabar ??? I carry my Dad's old Camillus on every hunt.
Ron, it is a KaBar 1226. Appears to be carbon steel. I sharpened it last night and it is "hair poppin" sharp now. I guess it's from an era when the only bows were simple stick and string!!
That is the same model knife I have used to field dress deer since 1977! Great knife, holds an edge well.
Same knife I carried in the late '60s. Lost mine in a Michigan cornfield sneakin' for a poke at a Ringneck...
Wow, does that bring back memories.
My grandmother had that same knife in a kitchen drawer and she would use it to help me dress out frogs that I cought.
Then she would fry them legs up for her and I for lunch.
I was about 5 or 6 years old. :goldtooth:

I'm either going to make or have someone make a sheath for it and carry it.

Great Find
Very cool.
That is the 1st knife I ever bought....had to have my parents come in and give the store owner the OK to sell it to me...lol
Still have it.
Little Finn. Nice style.
KaBar still makes them - and you can get a sheath from them.

A priceless find...
Good knife. Hey began production in the mid 1960's according to kabars website. And like mentioned above they still make it so you could get a new sheath. However if it were me, I would have one of the many skilled leather craftsmen on this page make me a top knotch sheath for such a special knife
