Says its going to be in the upper 20's in the morn and I have not duck hunted yet this year and I have never set out with a bow for them either. So I guess in the morn I will be sitting on our pond with a few decoys in front of me and my bow in hand. My father-in-law said he saw a group of ducks on the tank this afternoon so I'm hopeful of getting a shot in the morn. Got a quiver full of old arrows with sharp broadheads and a few flu-flu arrows in case I'm feeling extra good. Plan is to set a few decoys close and hope for the best ( I will be shooting at them on the water ). I will get all camoed up and sit on a short stool ready for a shot. Should be fun if nothing else.....

Good luck Sam
I have a smile on my face- just from reading about the anticipated outing. Looking forward to hearing more about it. Good Luck.
Sounds cold . But fun. Go get them.
Good luck !! We have wood ducks that fly in to our creek on our lease every evening. I've wanted so bad to take my bow down there with some flu flu arrows and broadheads. Haven't yet tho. Hope Santa brings me a camera arm and big Tri pod for my camcorder. Would make for interesting footage minus the bleeps for when I missed. Lol
Headed out to the cabin now , just finished charging cameras and putting camo tape on them. Will try and get some footage of the hunt like I said it will be fun how ever it goes. Just put together a new ILF recurve today and will be using it tomorow....

Good luck this morning! I went after some on public land once here in OK. I saw a Game Warden on my way in & he asked me if I was going to try to kill a duck with "that thing" (my longbow). I said, "Yessir." He just laughed & said, "Good luck!" and laughed some more. He never asked to see my hunting license, or Waterfowl stamp or anything. LOL. I guess he was right to not bother wasting his time, because I didn't find any to shoot at that day, but his reaction was always funny to me.
I am very interested in the outcome of this!!!
Ok , so far this morn I have 3 misses and 2 had feathers taken off of ( they just flew across the tank after loosing feathers and went about feeding ). Have seen about 20 so far 2 redheads and the rest teal and if you don't know teal are a small target. By the time I got out to the cabin put gear away and got decoys out and a little blind made it was 2am before I hit the bed. Got the hunting on video so far and will take some pics and post them later tonight. I love duck hunting and would have had a early limit this morn with my shotgun but the old scatter gun might stay in the safe this season cause this is pretty fun. Will sit a few more hours and will hunt again tomorrow , back at it for now....

My new favorite way to hunt waterfowl! Don't plan on killing enough for a meal, but when you do connect it's a better feeling than a limit with a shotgun! My favorite target is geese. Much bigger target!
Duck is dead I repeat we have a dead duck with my recurve , got it on video also. Pics later tonight.....

Yes!! Did you kill a teal??

Got a nice Red Head male , only high flying ducks now so time to regroup and get ready for tomorrow. Might have a few other tradgang members with me tomorrow ( see if we can get the ducks in a crossfire....

Sweet!
Exciting!
Congrats Sam! That's something Ive wanted to try for several years . You're success may motivate me to give it a go . I can't wait to see the video !!!
This is most excalent!!!!!
Looking forward to the pics and video :clapper:
Very cool! Can't wait to see pics and a video.
Way to go! I have yet to try with the bow but I still loving chasing those dang things. Speaking of redheads, my second duck of this season was a banded redhead drake down here in the salt...only my second band since 1986! Keep at it Sam and they wont' stand a chance...well except the teal, they always stand a chance!!!!
Incredible..... Now that is setting your mind to it and just plain getting it done
I swear bow hunters are easy to entertain. I'm
looking forward to the video & pictures.

That's awesome man!
I was pretty tempted to try goose this year but I didn't make it happen.
Ducks are even a smaller target.
I'm IMPRESSED!
I did not shoot him out of the air , had flu-flu arrows at the ready but with no wind they would just dive bomb in. Set out about a dozen decoys and they would swim over to check them out and my spot had me hidden well. I shot at 3 teal with close misses and got the Redhead , first shot broke his wing and he made the cattails so I got the little johnboat and found him and gave a finishing shot. The cabin is awesome and not far from a great little duck hole , my in-laws and brother-in-law and his buddy built it from the ground up. I could not get any takers for the morning but I will be hunting again. Got some pretty good video and will be putting it on my youtube channel as I get to it. Just put Broadheads on a bunch of old wood arrows for in the morn so about to head back to the cabin for another adventure...
,,,,,Sam,,,,,
Good luck man!
Granted shooting out of the air would be a crowning jewel, but the fact you got it with a bow is IMO way more sporting than with a gun whether on water or not.

Awesome hunt Sam! Hey is that riser a Hoyt TD-3? I have one that I did an ILF conversion on. My limbs are 40# @ 28". What limbs did you get?
That's just too cool.
Awesome.... congrats on that !
Thats great - Congrats Sam!
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper: Nicely done! Congratulations!
The riser is a Hoyt TD3-H20 , I have had it for well over 20 years the original limbs were 75@28. Got the ILF plates and my buddy Tom sand blasted and power coated the riser and fit the plates on for me. Got a set of Trad Tech BlackMax shorts that make it 48@30 and 61in. Really like the ILF rigs...
The ducks are slow this morn , shot at a teal and 2 scalp with nothing to show for it. Had a 8pt buck walk up to about 5yds but I'm out of buck tags already. Got good video of the missed ducks and the buck though...
,,,Sam,,,
That's awesome Sam....I'll be doing the same very soon with geese....I have a plan!
Congrats Sam, that's a great feat. Nicely done.
