It's been a heck of a 2017 for me(more on that in another thread), but Cade has had very limited hunting time.
He went without killing a turkey for the first time since he started in 2012...
No hardware from Muzzy for the first time ever...
He did get out on Oct. 1 with me for the archery opener, but shot just over the back of a spooky(on to us), big 6pt at about 12yds. :(
He didn't share a tree with me again till late October, the weekend before I left for Kansas. We saw deer, but he was offered no shots.
That brought us to last week when I pointed out to him that this is the first year he may go without killing a turkey or a deer with his bow ....ever!!
A day later he told me he'd made his mind up he wasn't getting "skunked" for 2017!!!
He practiced every day last week and was as ready as ever to hunt this past Saturday...
In the dark taking his practice draws he told me he was going to shoot a deer right where I'd shot my big 6pt.(again, I'll get to that story)the weekend before.
We weren't in the stands for a half hour when he got his chance!
At very first light , just 2 steps from where I'd shot my buck, he put an arrow into the biggest deer he'd ever had a chance at!
With a crunching blow his Stalker recurve had driven a 3 blade Grizzly Instinct into the near shoulder of the buck!
We waited for over an hour because we weren't sure about penetration...

We went back to the shed some layers and started on the trail...
The first fifty yards revealed absolutely no blood, but then it was like someone pulled a cork...

20 yards later he walked up on this...

Sending his buddies some pix...
He's told me for years that he couldn't wait to have a big rack to wrap his hands around...he did just that!

More pix to follow...

Dressing his own for the first time...

He handed me his bow, grabbed a hold of his buck, and dragged him all the way out himself... my little man isn't so little anymore!!

Cade is still shooting the Stalker recurve South made for him....great shooter....he loves it!
Congratulations to you Cade!
Great buck !!!
Congrats, Cade on a fine buck!
Thanks to Curt for posting some photos of the blood trail and the beginnings of Cade field dressing his buck.
I have always felt that the biggest hole in the content of online forums, to say nothing of TV hunting shows, is practical information, with photos, about what to do after you shoot, as there's so much more than a photograph. I think seeing a young hunter who's been well-mentored going through those steps would be good to see. Maybe that's just my thinking..I've never hauled a deer out on the back of an ATV or taken a deer to a "processor" and I get a great sense of satisfaction from every part of the process of being a bowhunter, from practicing my shooting all the way to wrapping and labeling the last package of venison.
Sorry for going off track. Great hunting, Curt and Cade.
