I'm in love with the looks and styles of the super kodiak. But, I don't want a production bow. So I'm asking you all...save me a lot of Google searching lol.
Who do you recommend? I honestly want a custom made knock-off of a super kodiak. Who's bows can mimic that style?
58-60" amo, 60# draw, left handed, camo wood pattern. Want a smooth draw and a fast shooter. I know you all tested so many bows. I have only shot the same 2 for the last 14 years.
Thank you
Black Widow and Bob Lee, both sponsors, make recurves similar to the Super Kodiak. I note that Bob Lee has a special on right now for $250 off the price of stock bows. They are currently listing a 60", 58# camo finished LH recurve normally priced at $1,045 for $795.
I also note that BW has a stock 60" PSAX 58# LH recurve listed for $1,275. This bow is finished in zebra wood, and is their top of the line bow. They aren't offering any discounts, unless you can negotiate something with them directly.
I don't know that a stock Bob Lee or BW bow would be much more "custom" than a production Bear bow, but if it offers you everything you are looking for, why not?
John at Big River Bows has made a few Kodiak knocks-offs. Don't know if he's still building. I believe Vintage Works also makes a Kodiak copy.
Don't know what the hangup is about a factory Kodiak. If you're going to have someone build a copy, it's not really a custom bow, just a different set of hands.

I agree. Production with options - but if I were richer and/or younger I'd be having Bob Lee do me up something.
Two of the bows I'm hunting with now he (or his Houston crew) built by hand 55 years ago, and a couple others a mere 50 years old! They obviously keep well. :archer:
Orion the problem I have with current bear production is the poor customer service. I'm OK with paying more for quality service. My grayling grizzly has been through a lot and I would never part with it....but I simply not a fan of "new" bear bows. Personal preference I suppose
Chad at Holm Made has some River Runner recurves in his stock bow list that he refers to as Kodiak.
I have one of his longbows, and it shoots and looks great.
Predator take-down recurves at Hunter's Niche is very close in design.

Chad was my thought as well. And if your looking for customer service he's tops also.
The closest to the S.K. in my opinion, is a Predator. Awesome bows. Great folks to deal with, and you don't have to rob a bank, or wait a year.
RH: Understood. Thanks for clarifying. Good luck. Take a look at the Vintage Works website. He makes some beautiful bows.
Wes Wallace builds one similar to a Kodiak. Never owned one but they sure look nice.
Didn't Brandon Stahl make a fine reproduction or was that another model he replicated?

Yes he did.
Really one of the finest bowyers when it comes to craftsmenship. His bows are detailed in every aspect.
You can't go wrong with a Sarrels bow!!!

Check Poppe archery. He has a web site. Makes a really nice Super K copy. 500.00 to 650.00 price range. He offers a camo model.
The bow Brandon built was the Heritage. Beautiful bow, could hardly tell it was a take down. It looked very much like a S.K.
I agree with Poppe Archery for a late 60's Super K/mid 60's kodiak look. He is also in Grayling so you have that connection too. I shot one a couple of years ago and thought it shot very well.
I thought there was a Roseoak model that matched the SK. Or was it the Bear takedown?
