TANJ hasn't done one for years and I'm jonesing. Used to have my own dog but she died two years ago and I haven't been able to replace her so now I need to go with a group to keep the cost down
Depending on location, I'm in
I'll travel
If you have more pa guys then jersey guys I'll even go there
I'm in,
I'd love to!!
I would be interested. I have few grinds who be as well.
Please keep us posted.
Thank you.
New Yorkers. Give me your towns so I can pick the most centralized location
I'd be up for that
Long Island, Nassau County.
Buttonwood Harmony NJ (northwest) 13 birds, dog and guide just under 500
Usually start losing people when they learn there is actually a cost involved LOL. Still interested. I will pick up the cost for two extra birds and tip for the guide. If we have 5 people at 100 apiece that would be a real bargain
Bowzonly, just sent you an e-mail.
Can you post details? Dates, location, etc?
I'm in let me know the specifics. I'll help boot the tip and maybe an extra bird or two.
Thanks,
Big Ed
I'm interested, I hunted Buttonwood before with shotgun and they are very nice people. I assume you are going to secure a pointer instead of a flusher?
Depending on the date, I'd be interested if you don't have enough people yet.
I'm still interested as long as the dates work!
Looks like buttonwood it is. Out of state hunters need a one day license for 12.50 Cost will depend on number of hunters My goal is to keep it under 125 per hunter and as I said earlier I am willing to kick in extra to insure that everyone has a good time 6 people in a group is perfect. Any more and those at the end of the line may not get a shot. It's wise to rotate positions for each bird regardless. Pointer definetly No broadheads for birds in flight. Research best heads for pheasant on this site. At least 6 flu flus with minimal fletching. Shoot at 45 degree angle. 70 yard flight is perfect. For me, three 5 inch full cut feathers do the trick. I highly recommend you show up early and practice with a launcher I made specifically for this purpose ( not just on discs tossed straight in the air. My dates are flexible. I work every other weekend and a couple days during the week For instance I am off this weekend (dec 9/10) and work the following weekend. Season runs through at least March. Put in your vote for a date
P. S. You need a current license from your state or hunter safety card to purchase one day license
Any weekend works for me.
It looks like the website hasn't been updated since 2014. Would this be a "half day" or "full day" hunt?
I've never done anything like this. When they say 4 birds released per hunter, how does that work?
Don't worry about that 4 bird thing. Half day full day might depend on number of hunters. Don't worry I have been on plenty of these. You will get your moneys worth and do plenty of walking. They understand that we as archers have special needs
Just let me know when.....not sure Cade will make it, he works delivering pizza on the weekends.
Well, I would sure like to try it. When are you thinking about doing it? Late Jan., Feb.?
At this point with the holidays coming I'm looking at Jan 14 or 28
I'd love to come down from NY if there is still room
I'm in and good for either weekend!
There should be plenty of room. I have been on these hunts with a dozen people before. We would just split in to two groups.
I could probably do either weekend, the 14th is a holiday weekend so schools are off and it might be tougher if folks are going away.
Is this gonna be a rain or shine event? I would prefer a Saturday. I don't have any experience with this but am thinking about using field points with flu-flus. Will that work?
Not in the rain. Sat should be okay. Field points won't work but if you are using wood shafts drill 2 holes through field tip and cross cross two small nails
I'm still interested, either weekend should be fine!
Give me a head count for Sat Jan 27
I'm in.
I'm in
Should work for me, maybe Cade too
Do we need to be concerned about the dog with regards to the tip we use?
Never had a prob with dogs yet
I'm in for Jan 27.
I'll have to check, the 27th is my Bday and knowing my wife she already has something planned. Would this be an all day hunt or just the half day?
Half day morning
I'm in.
TTT , Can't wait!!!
Can you use dull broadheads with the dogs or should you use field tips with nails?
I would think nails would be just as bad as a broadhead but Bruce says never had a problem with the dogs. I read on some old threads that flu-flus with a field point works. I'm gonna whip up a couple judos, field points, and maybe 1 or 2 of these http://www.kustomkingarchery.com/Kondor-Glue-on-145-gr-EACH/productinfo/2510/
New law in NJ, no broadheads for birds in flight
The no broadheads law is more for human safety. Handler can always control dog so they don't chase flushed birds
Thanks bowzonly, I found some small game heads I think will work so will bring them along with field points with some small nails through them.
I'm in,Hudson valley
Bump!
Is January 27th the confirmed date?
Yes
Awesome.
I've got another tradganger to go and i'm working on a couple of more.
The more the merrier. After the 1st I will tally up the count so I can make the reservation. They will probably require some sort of a deposit. I will keep you posted. If we have more than 6 ( which seems likely) we will split into two groups.
Contacted Buttonwood today. They are penciling us in for the morning (four hour hunt sat jan 27). Give me confirmation from here( re a firm if you've already responded) so I can give the actual count so we know how many dogs we need and how much of a deposit to send
Still in.
I'm in
I'm in!
Bump.
Anyone else?
TTT
I've put off getting back to you because there was some talk of my daughters team adding another tourney to their schedule...just found out they did...and of course it's a one day tourney on this day!
Looks like I can't make it.....sorry! I was really looking forward to doing this again.
If you do it again....ill sure try to make it!!
Do we have enough guys to make this happen? I don't mind kicking in more money. If not I'll start asking a few buddies. I've always wanted to try this.
I would like to stay under 150.00. Reading thru the thread there's some mention of kicking in for an extra bird or 2. How does this work? Do you pay per bird. I don't expect to kill many if ya know what I mean:)
Do we want to try for an alternate date if we don't have enough people for 1/27?
Right now it looks like 4 confirmed. I might be able to drum up another person.
Mint, did you have luck with getting anyone else?
Looking good tallying up the final count we will surely have enough people just a matter of how many dogs we will need. It will surely be under 150. Looks like it won't go over 125
Looks like me, skipmaster party of 4, Matt, Big Ed, and Mint party of 2 for a total of 9. habph2 have we heard back from you yet?
No. It's just me. I have no party of 4. I was adding up the "yes's" on this thread.
The other guys can't give me a firm answer so don't count them.
I have an interest in this hunt, but can't make it... Sorry...
... mike ... :archer2: ...
Mike- you should definitely come! If nothing else we'll laugh our tails off!
Not gonna happen for me..... :archer2: ...
So it looks like 6. That's a good group. Only 1 dog. I'll call and confirn
Actually have 3 more so we are looking at 9
Just called Buttonwood and reserved a spot for the morning of January 27 one 15 bird package between nine guys gives us a pretty good price they did not ask for a deposit but if less guys show up on the day of We do not get a discount. Would everyone be OK with sending me a small good faith deposit
Absolutely. Just tell me how much and where to send it.
Never done this. How does 15 birds between 9 guys work? I don't wanna sound greedy but would like to get a few shots, maybe even hit one!
Not gonna happen for me..... Sorry.....
... mike ... :archer2: ...
I think there will be plenty of shooting and hopefully some bits hit!
Have fun everybody... Guess I won't be there...
... mike ... :archer2: ...
Let me call them again I think I did the math wrong we may end up with two fields with 15 birds each we can split into two groups that way that would be awesome
That would be amazing
Sorry about the flip-flop Bruce, but I'm not able to attend... Life happens... :banghead: ...
Sorry about the math mix up. My first time planning this. If we don't get two fields then we should have a bunch of $ left for extra birds and plenty of shooting. Once I get a few good shots in I like to take a few breaks to get some good photos anyway. My first call to the place I requested two fields then I had the math spasm called and cancelled one then realized my mistake and called again to ask for the second field the lady wasn't to patient with me at that point so I don't wasn't to call and pester her or she might just drop us altogether. These places are skeptical about bowhunters to begin with. I want to establish a good relationship in case we make this a annual event
I'm sure it'll be great whatever we get. If it's fun we can give tune it the next time.
Talking to a couple of my fellow club members at Suffolk Archers they told me they booked with you also. That said I don't think any from our group will have a problem either way.
Please let me know if you do it again.....last minute daughter softball tourney kept me from attending this one....good luck!!
Is this hunt still on? I only have internet access at work and won't be back till the 23rd. I am still in.
As far as I know it's still scheduled
What time are we meeting up for the shoot? Looks like the hunts start at 8:00am so we plan to be there around 7:00am or so. Looks like we will have warm weather.
Sorry I didn't get back sooner my Internet has been down and I have been very busy we are confirmed for two fields for Saturday start time is 8 o'clock show up between 730 and eight pretty sure you need to bring your license from whatever state and then get the one day out of stage for I think it's 12.50We can let them know at that time if we want extra birds
I am still counting on nine people even a couple more would be fine so if anyone else is interested you are more than welcome
Sounds great. I'm excited for this
Hope y'all get some pics from this hunt-would be great to see. Also would be good if a bird or two comes home.
Buttonwood just called me. The woman said someone from NY called and asked if they needed a license. Does everyone have a hunting license. Everyone needs one. If you are out of state it's a one day out of state fee of 12.50
Are you bringing your launcher for some practice shots?
Yes Matt
Actually I called from NY. I asked if my enhanced drivers license that has my life time hunting license embossed on it will suffice or would I need to find my actual hunting license. She said she never heard of it but would be OK.
Do you have a list of guys coming?
Do they take Credit Cards or should cash be brought?
Cash
Thanks
No solid list. Just the numbers that people gave me. That's about 9 guys. With two fields we have room for even a couple more so if someone has a last minute friend bring them along. Start time 8 am. 730 if you need to practice first. I'll be there early
Just got home from the Pheasant Hunt. What a great time , was fortunate to shoot a couple birds. Great meeting everyone and can't wait to do it again.
Big Ed
Glad you had a good time, Big Ed!
... mike ...
It was a fun trip. I got lucky and killed a couple of birds. We hit some more, knocked a bunch of feathers off certainly got close enough to scare a few more. It was fun to see familiar faces and meet new guys. I'd do this again for sure.
Congrats Greg and Ed. Sounds like it was a great day
This is the only footage I got of anyone actually knocking down a bird. Big Ed made a great shot on this bird!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xjgx6aN_Z5M
That was the first time for me shootin birds. Definitely a lot of fun:)
