Title: Bear Take Down
Post by: Kevin Hansen on November 19, 2017, 08:11:00 PM
Hello.
Looking to shorten my Bear Take Down to 60". I currently have a B riser paired with #3 limbs. According to the Bear website this equates to a 64" bow.
The way I read the website I have two options to reach 60"...either get a new A riser, or get new #1 limbs.
Other than cost, what are the pros and cons of either option?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

There is nothing wrong with buying a used set of limbs or riser. Just a warning though, they will start to breed behind your significant others back.

I have a long draw and prefer a shorter riser with longer limbs, vs a longer riser a shorter limbs.  To me, the shorter riser w/ long limbs always seemed smoother.   From what have read, Fred Bear preferred the longer B riser with #1 limbs, for a 60" bow.

Just wondering why you want to go shorter. I also agree with jeff w, short riser, long limbs.

Risers are a bit less expensive than limbs. An A riser w/#3 limbs is (for me) smoother than a B w/#1 limbs. IMO, you can't go wrong either way.

Going shorter for the times I'm in a ground blind. The rest of the time I'll stick with my 64" bow.

Well I guess makes sense......natural blind or the tent type. I use may 64" Bear T/D all the time in a blind. Just have to be aware of your position. I guess the bottom line is you need to do what you feel is going to work the best for you. No matter what have fun doing it.

I would buy another bow, an A riser with #1 limbs.  Then you can mix and match for the situation and you always have a backup.

To go shorter than 60" you'll have to get an A riser. An A riser with #1 limbs is 56" #2 limbs 58" #3 limbs 60". I use an A riser with #2 limbs for blind hunting.

That is my ultimate plan, but can't swing it all at once from a financial aspect. So, for the immediate future I'm looking at either limbs or a riser to give me the shorter bow length.
Really appreciate all the input from everyone. Thanks!

The more I learn from others, the more I'm leaning in this direction...

If your draw length is on the short to average length go with B handle and #1 limbs.  I do most of my shooting with a B handle with #1 limbs (I draw 28").  If you have a long draw (say over 29 -30 inches) I would stay with the combination you have.
