Title: Price vs performance in ilf limbs
Post by: WVbowhunter on October 20, 2017, 04:45:00 PM
Well yesterday I got the chance to chronograph my ilf rig with my aluminum arrows, 2016s full length 100 grain points and 3 x 4 inch vanes, total weight about 500 grains. Average speed was 184 fps. The limbs are SF premium plus glass/wood. I'm pretty happy with the limbs for there price point of ~$120

Those SF limbs are nice for the price. Pretty good speed for a heavy arrow. I had some "bow money" so I went with the carbon foam limbs. 1/2 the price or more than other brands. Besides I an'it good enough to tell the difference anyway.

There are some real good limbs out there for not a lot of money.......I have gotten several pair off the classifieds at 1/2 price or less. One of the good things about ILF set ups. Your options are endless. I just picked up a pair of SKY ILF limbs......really nice.

Speed is not the only criteria in judging limbs.
However I shot ILF of differing price and construction.  In the ******** (TT) line I got 4 fps going from wood/glass to carbon/wood.
Then another 8 fps going from carbon/wood to a carbon.  Price doubled.  But very different feel.
"Super recurve" limbs like the Uukha and especially Borders are real pricey.  But in the case of the Borders you get the highest speeds with hunting arrows and a limb that only draws an extra 3-4# from 26" to 28"
Start with a reasonable price and go up as you feel the need.

I just picked up my new Win&Win Black Wolf riser and a set of Kaya K2 carbon-wood limbs that cost $189.  Superb shooting limbs for the money, quick quiet smooth.  The Black Wolf riser is phenomenal.  Couldn't be happier.

I have had both.  My all time favorite ILF limbs I have had up to this point were Bob's Max 4's.  I kind of look at it like a car.  Sure, the a hyundai and Cadillac may go about the same speed and get you from point A to B, but the Cadillac will be a much more enjoyable ride.

I currently own 2 different sets of the ******** max 2.0's and for the money, they are very nice.  But, their draw cycle is not even close to that of the Max 4's.
