That's right! Very important information. I'm talking about your information from your successful hunts.
Trad Gang is like the Encyclopedia (everybody knows what that is... right?) of bowhunting knowledge. Help us all learn by giving us the important information about your harvests.
1. A picture is always nice. If you can't manage it someone on here will post it for you.
2. Run down your equipment... Brand of bow, it's draw weight, length, type of arrow and brand of broadhead w/number of blades.
3. How much penetration you got and what organs were cut. (you do poke around doing a post mortem, right?)
4. Distance of it's last run, was the blood trail copious or sparse.
5. Distance of shot.
By doing this we can build a reference for all to use. I believe we are all hungry for these details.
Thanks guys and good hunting whatever your game is. :archer:
Indeed.

:readit: well said Mr Lamb

Opening morning here in Indiana.
1. Sorry no pics.
2. Tradgang bow swap recurve from 2012 from Jess Stuart. 47# at 27". Carbon blem, Ribtek 190.
3. Passed through and stuck in log. Double lung.
4. No run as it was impaled on the arrow. It did bark a bit. Much blood.
5. 18 ft. from the ground while stillhunting.
Oh yeah, it was a squirrel :)

Brand new Jason Kendal Kanati Longbow. 60lb@30", 185 Gr grizzly single bevel, 75 grain adapter, 50 grain insert, 340 easton axis. The deer was angling away steeply, the arrow struck too far back in the rump, missed the femoral artery but angle forward and exited on the opposite side ribs. The deer traveled along a creek bed for about 1/4 mile and piled up on along side the stream. There was almost no blood on the ground that I could find.

Charlie you got that right, details, details, details!
Conversation with wife...
Wife: You'd hear Jess had her baby.
Me: Boy or Girl?
Wife: A little lass
Me: Wt. and length?
Wife: I don't know I didn't ask.
Me: Woman you need to learn to get more information!

What's the general consensus of putting it in pow wow and in the highlights? I just posted mine in the 2017 Highlights only. Saw no need to eat up more bytes of data in two spots. Especially since everything is being converted.

Sounds good sir....

Good points. My hunting time the last few years has been very limited so I depend on reading about others hunts to get my fix. Details are important.
Great idea Charlie, looking forward to watching this and adding to it when the temps come down a little.

I guess I should add one of my own... I haven't downloaded my photos yet so I don't have one of those.
I shot a small doe a couple of weeks ago. The shot was 20-25 yds. The was a 62" Sunbear recurve, 50# @28, 2018 Aluminum shaft, 4.75 inch 4 fletch 75x105, Magnus Buzzcut 4 blade 150 gr.
Arrow centered both lungs and was stopped by offside shoulder.
The blood trail was OK but tall grass made it more difficult than it should have been. I'd say she ran about 70-80 yards
Charlie...are you looking for retro pics as well or just moving forward?
Also, are you asking for the details to be in the members own hunt thread or post the details here in this thread....Just checking ....
:campfire:
Had'nt thought about it T. Originally I thought it would be in the member's own hunt thread, but it might work better if posted here... or both places as long as the info gets posted.
I wondered that too, might change the thread name and sticky it at the top with the shot selection stuff?
Just thinkin, and that's risky for me! :p
That might be the ticket Kenny! Call it the "TradGang Lethality Study" or something like it.
Noticed I didn't answer all of T's post... past or present kills doesn't matter as long as the details are complete.
I think it is a good idea.
Couldn't agree more
Brilliant idea Charlie, you are perfectly right we need those informations
Whitetail Doe
Bob lee recurve 53@28" (I draw 28")
Beman centershot 400 cut to 28.25"
Grizzly 185 glued on a 125 adapter (310 total weight)
75 grain brass insert
Total arrow weight was 675 grains
FOC = 28.96%
Shoots 155 FPS
Shot on doe was 21 yards from a tripod 10' up. She was quartering slightly away from me towards her right. She moved forward on the shot and the arrow entered the very back of her left side ribcage, and angled through her thorax exiting the back 1/3 of her right lung. Complete pass through with arrow stuck in the dirt behind her.
She ran about 95 yards and dropped. There was a moderate blood trail. I cant figure out how to post pics!
Well, this one slipped away.
Charlie, I can add some but can't post pics with fone. Will get on computer tonite and add details and a couple pics
Thanks buddy.
Whitetail buck
TD D/R longbow 64" , 48#@28"
GT blem 500, stock insert,200 gr 3 blade VPA

Shot from tree stand
22 yards
Deer was uphill so about 4' lower than stand
Entry lower than exit ??
Hit liver and maybe one lung, sorry was dark during autopsy
Penetrated both sides but not a complete stuck in the dirt, thinkin he was doing a duck/roll due to entry/exit locations...
150 est. yard recovery, great blood trail

Hunting from the ground, public land using Hammock seat.
Doe, 3 came in seen them browsing for 18 yards, she offered the broadside shot at 10 yards.
Bow- Sunset Hill Longbow, Nate Steen, 50#
Home made Cedar arrow, with Ace broadhead, total weight 650 grains.
She ran out to field, about 30 yards.
Found the arrow, on other side of impact zone, covered in blood total pass thru, trail heavy
Arrow passed through both lungs and heart.
Harvest Date: 10-15-17 5Pm
I guess I've learned more from the poor shots I've made. Like the first doe I shot this year. She was too close on the right...and then spooked n trotted to the left....I started drawing hoping she was gonna stop....she did and the arrow was gone- but my bottom bow limb hit the stand. Pushed the arrow forward and low. I could see the broken arrow and blood from the stand so I still thought I was ok. I gave her 30 and started tracking. Good blood then bbad blood then a pile and then not much. Had to back track a few times to get back on blood. It was tough through the tall field. After 1.5 hrs and 350 or 400 yds probably I found her. I had 3 entrance and exit wounds from the same arrow. In and out high left leg - in chest out chest -back in right leg and then out. Was a 4" gash inside the rib cage but really think it was just blood loss in general. I was glad I had that tigershark on there.

4x4 bull elk. First shot broadside from about 20 yards passed through both lungs and exited the opposite side. He walked 10 yards seemingly not knowing he was shot. Second shot as he quartered away from me. Arrow entered low behind left shoulder and almost totally exited the front of his chest. Just 6" of my shaft left in body. Arrow passed through his heart. He staggered, fell over and kicked for a minute.
Approximately 215# boned out meat packed out on my back (& son-in-law) 7-1/2 miles to the trailhead. It took 2-1/2 days to get the meat and our camp packed out.
Stalker Stickbow Coyote longbow 52#@30", 31" Heritage 250 carbon shaft, 200 gr Cutthroat broadhead, four 4" fletch, 580 gr.

Great thread. If there's one piece of info that might make some of us better/more successful hunters, it'd be to say what was the key thing you did right. I have more hope of imitating that than the bow/quiver set-up.
Nice work! Congrats!
Small whitetail buck for 2017. 12 yards from stand. He offered a broadside I couldn't resist.
Red Wing Hunter (Head Ski era) of 58" & 49# and a 125 gr Mowoc Dot three-blade (of 1960 era) on a Douglas fir shaft.
