With the archery season starting I thought I would take a page out of Ryan Rothhaars book and offer up some tracking services for any tradgangers in east central Indiana. I have a young, 15 month old wirehaired dachshund that I showing a lot of promise.
Tracking services are free. I am just looking to work the dog and help some hunters find their deer.
If you have some doubt on shot placement this fall back out and give me a call or send me a text. My cell # is 765-651-6761. I work a little and hunt quite a bit so if I don't answer give me a few. I will answer as quick as I can.
Nathan, I hope you get to work him. We shot a few for Ximo that first year. My friend Dalton shot one opening evening, he thought he might of got one lung, he waited and called for Ximo. I never seen the first blood because Ximo was so fast at the recovery.

Tim I think we will get plenty of work. We worked a track on a doe Saturday. Same thing as you and Ximo had. Yogi had it worked out in just a few minutes.

Good deal! I'll remember your contact when I get calls out your way. We still track, tho I'm screening out alot of calls anymore. Will track within 1 hr of Cloverdale, a bit further for a traditional bow :)

Clint I live in Rush Co. I'll go out a county or two from there. Like Ryan I would like to keep them to within an hour of the house.
Ryan that works for me. I am looking to give his short legs a workout this fall.
And guys for us and I think any tracking dog. Don't call us as the last resort, like after you and several buddy's have grid searched for a deer. That complicates things.
I'm out of the coverage area. That's nice of you to offer the services of your dog. I've wanted to train one to do that but never got around to it. Good luck with him this fall.
Steve if you were in need of a tracking dog check out the United Blood Trackers website. They have a "find a tracker" link that has contact info for tracking dogs all over. It looks like there would be 2 or 3 that are close to you.
Thank you Nathan, I appreciate that info. I wouldn't have thought to check that out. I hope you and Yogi have a fun successful season. It would be nice to hear about your success rate at the end of the season.

A little about success rate on tracking other people's deer..... its not about you or the dog's success rate, but about the hunter's. I've found if you take every call hunters as a whole tend to be "optimistic" to put it lightly about their own ability and the hit on the animal. You'll do good to find 30% of all cold calls.
That said, in 8 years we have only had 2 folks find the deer later, and one was submerged in a river under a log that the dog took us to, just couldn't see it at night. The vast majority of calls turn out to be non-fatally hit deer. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "I ten-ringed him, that's right where my sight pin was" I could pay for lots of dog food.
On deer hit by myself, family, and people I trust to know what a fatal shot looks like we are near 100% recovery on deer described as fatal wounds. I have full faith that if the deer is dead we'll find it.
As a tracker your biggest hurdle is the average (clueless) hunter...... oh we have stories!

Ryan I can see that there will be a lot of stories. A lot of people out there with not a clue what they are doing.
As someone who has watched Oskar work on a couple of different tracking jobs, it's really unbelievable to see how amazing they are at tracking a deer.
Very cool to offer. I have seen how a good dog can make all the difference between a lost deer and a punched tag. I am training a pup now that is coming along nicely on mock trails. He worked one out last week that another guy and his dog were on for about 20 minutes trying to get his pup interested in the track.
Guys,if you want a real treat take advantage of the offer, seeing a good dog work a track is a true joy.
