I have wanted to kill a deer with a vintage recurve bow for a while. Tonight I made it happen. I was using a 1962 Bear Kodiak Magnum. I was sitting in a valley below a small pond that's in the woods. Nothing was moving. It was very slow for the first hour or so. At 6:00 pm a doe walked my direction from the pond. She came straight down the hill at me and turned on a trail about 10 yards away. I stood up when she went behind some trees. She took a few more steps and gave me a nice broadside shot. The next thing I see is my arrow disappearing behind her shoulder. I knew it was a good hit. She took off running up the hill to my left. I could see red spraying out as she ran. She dropped about 40 yards away. The Zwickey 2 blade broadhead went through both lungs and split a rib longways.
The doe is 1.5 years old. She is easily recognizable by the blond patch of fur on her fore head. She was a fawn last year. It's not the biggest doe that I saw today but it's the only one who gave me a shot within my 15 yard comfort zone.
Pictures are to big. I'll try to fix it.

Frank, I think most modern camo is designed for the human eye instead of the animals. This is the second year I have hunted with home made camo clothes. The 4 deer I killed while wearing them didn't seem to notice. And all were within 25 yards.
Congratulations and Good Shooting!
Dont this time of year stir up things on the inside! :clapper:
Yes it does. It felt good to get the predator feeling flowing through my body again.
Congrats, looks tender..
congrats
Thanks guys. I went back to the blood trail today and found the pointy end of the arrow. The very tip was curled over just a tiny bit. A few swipes on a stone and it is ready to hunt again.

Very nice. Congrats on a fine doe! Some of the best venison you can get, in my humble opinion!
Kenny
Cool (interesting) camo...it obviously worked
 :archer:
Great job Brother and would you look at the lines on that bow! Beautiful!
Nice kill with a good old bow. Surprising the arrow broke.
Splitting that rib like that slowed the arrow down. It was sticking out the back side. She ran between two trees and that's what broke the arrow like that.
I know the camo looks different. Our woods are a thick tangle of trees. Mostly osage. With the lines on my shirt and pants it really breaks up my outline. I've had a lot of close encounters with deer while wearing them and I've been very happy with the results.
Good shot!!
